Swim
Comments: First olympic distance race swim. Took it easy, but way too easy! Really wish i would have gone harder. My swim is my weakest area, but compared to those who finished ahead of me, i was 3-4 minutes slower! What would you do differently?: Really need to get in the pool more and work on drills. Transition 1
Comments: Little bit of a jog to T1, but pretty decent overall. 18th overall T1. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I carried my bike to the mount line because all of T1 was grass. Bike
Comments: According to the race site they changed the route to 28 miles, and my results of the site show an average speed of 22.7 MPH, so I'm not sure it they changed it again. Either way the bike went very well for me. I pushed to a good level and saved just the right amount of energy for the run. There were some headwinds at times, but other than that i felt very good on the bike. My goal for my first 2 races has been 20mph average and that was my goal for this one. In each of my races I've improved so its nice to see the training is paying off. What would you do differently?: Nothing, maybe try to hydrate during the bike as my mouth got a little dry towards the end. Transition 2
Comments: Slower T2 for me. After i racked my bike and put on my shoes i forgot where the run exit was and ran around in a circle for 10 or so seconds. 66th overall T2. What would you do differently?: Know where the exits are! I also want to start training sock-less as putting socks on is tough after a bike and really wastes a lot of time. Run
Comments: The run is probably my strongest area, so I know I want to save a little energy so I can run to the level I know I can. It went very well for me. I kept it easy and moved into a moderate pace for the first 3 miles and pushed hard on the last half. My left quad felt like it was going to start cramping up but never did thankfully. Went as hard as i could for the last 400m or so and was dead sprinting the last 100m to give it everything I had. My goal was a 7min mile and I did a lot better than i expected! What would you do differently?: Try to hydrate more. My stomach started sloshing around about 4.5 miles in and was thinking maybe a gel or some gatorade for the last stretch would have been nice. Post race
Warm down: Found McKenzie, stretched, ate a bit and drank water. What limited your ability to perform faster: My swimming! Its funny to look at the times and assume that if i got an average time based on the people that finished ahead of me I would have gotten top 15 and 2nd in my AG! Really shows what a few minutes here and there on the swim can do! Overall, as my first Olympic Distance race I'm very happy and know what I need to work on. Will be exciting to hit the pool hard and see what improvements I can make! I plan on doing one more tri this year at the end of August, so i have a little bit of time to try and gain some swim speed. Event comments: Great race and not too challenging in terms of hills/turns etc. Everything was well run and a lot of fun! Last updated: 2014-06-18 12:00 AM

Woke up and had coffee and sipped on a water downed gel. Then drove to the race with McKenzie which was about a 30 minutes drive.
Light job and some arm warm ups for the swim.
