Swim
Comments: I got some good feet for the first 1/3 of the course. I took most of the course wide. I'm thinking there was a good :30-:60 that could have been trimmed if I was more aggressive with the route. There wasn't any real contact to speak of and I felt nice and relaxed throughout. My time was about a minute slower than 2 years ago, but I haven't done nearly as much swim training. What would you do differently?: Not a whole lot could be done here. I suppose I could plot a more direct route, but I consciously chose to swim wide. Transition 1
Comments: I got a spot on the rack right near the bike-out - like 10 steps away. So I just opted to take those steps in my shoes rather than risk the flying squirrel maneuver. What would you do differently?: It's been suggested to me that I trim my wetsuit ankles. However, my next race has wetsuit strippers, so this won't be an issue until next June. Bike
Comments: Didn't push nearly as hard as HOLT, but still spent most of the time in the big ring. My quads were a little tight for the first few miles (likely due to yesterday's long run), but loosened up for the back half of the ride. What would you do differently?: Not a lot. If I had pushed harder on the bike, there wouldn't have been as many matches left for the run. Transition 2
Comments: Not a lot going on here. My spot was right near the bike-in too. What would you do differently?: Nuthin' Run
Comments: The run was a lot of fun. The volunteers were everywhere and fun to interact with. I kept a pretty steady pace and still managed to have enough left for a sub-8 final mile. Considering I've been sick for most of the past week, I feel pretty good about this. What would you do differently?: Not much. There was no reason to turn myself inside out for this race. It was just a glorified training day/equipment check. Post race
Warm down: Uh....Warmdown? Once I got home and had some lunch I did a couple more hours on the bike. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of a proper training/taper cycle didn't help. But, there's not a lot I can do about that. Event comments: What they have is for the most part sufficient, but he Olympic could use 1 aid station on the bike, and another on the run wouldn't hurt. Bagel & peanut butter with banana and water for breakfast. Left the house just after 5am and got checked in around 5:40. Did a quick ride to make sure nothing was broken, then chatted with other athletes and got my wetsuit on.
About 1.5 miles of riding just to get through all the gears. Then, about 200m of swimming to get loose.
