Pre-race routine:

Ate one piece of wheat bread with one T. peanut butter, and a cup of coffee with cream and Splenda. Had to wait quite a while for the swim, so drank full bottle of water while waiting.

Found myself moving slowly..thinking I was doing a longer race. Had to tell myself to speed up!

The route had a lot of turns this year - didn't wipe out, which was a plus. Some rough potholes/railroad tracks. Second year doing this race so I knew what to expect.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time on speed work - this is a short bike distance.

Had some trouble getting my shoes on to run - need to use Glide or something. Wore Zoot shoes with laces.

By this time it was pretty hot. Started to walk at one point and decided to just keep going at a slow pace and sang cadence to myself.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster!! And seed myself faster in swim so that it's not 9 am by the time I start running.

Warm down:

The race organizers had bananas, oranges, pasta salad, water and Gatorade. Really nice medal this year!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Failure to train better - need to run more and do more bricks.

Event comments:

An excellent event for newcomers. Was nice to see first timers there with family cheering them on!
