Swim
Comments: I LOVE swimming!! I was actually thinking to myself while I was doing it that I was really enjoying myself. I kept with the group, and checked a lot for the buoys to make sure I didn't drift off like my last race, and that worked. Lots of the men in the next wave ran me over, but even still not punched or kicked too bad at all, I was thrilled with my swim!! The secret...follow the feet, HAA! What would you do differently?: Use defogger on my goggles, they fogged up something fierce, had to stop take them off, and try to get the fog out... Transition 1
Comments: I always have trouble controlling my breathing coming into T1...I did today also...had ants in my socks, think I didn't manage to get one of those pesky buggers out of there, cause he was biting me on my bike...putting on the bike shoes is a lot faster than putting on running shoes, but I was taking my time on this...cool thing was that I was the first bike (on my little 5 bike rack) going out for the bike, that made me feel good! What would you do differently?: not get ants in my socks! Bike
Comments: I was pretty tired after the first 13 miles, that second 13 mi loop really hurt...was happy that I practiced doing tight uturns yesterday, I did them well at the turnaround and was happy about that...got very tired of hearing "on your left" as everybody and his brother passed me by...I think I got passed by about 300 people on this part...just gotta get better!! Howeevr, that being said, I was exactly perfect on what my goal for the bike was...so, yeah!! What would you do differently?: Drink more, practice more, you know the drill:) Transition 2
Comments: Hadn't had to rack and get running shoes on before since I had biked in my running shoes previous to this...considering, I thought it was good...pretty short transition length... What would you do differently?: Get those quick-ties for my running shoes, but I'm not really at the level where I really NEED them... Run
Comments: I was last in my age group by more than 10 minutes...I just wasn't up to the fitness level of these other girls, and it REALLY showed here...I am kinda disappointed...my goal was to finish, but secretly, I was hoping that I wouldn't walk...ummm, yea...so I walked...a LOT! At first my heartrate was just out of control, and I was sweating like crazy...I ran out of T2, ran a bit, feeling so bad, I walked...met Lucy (Hi!!:)) ...ran to mile 1, then drank copious amounts of gatorade and water - walked...then walked/ran the rest of the way...I tried to walk fast when I was walking...but I did a lot more walking than I was hoping to do...I walked the entire hill (mile 3-4)...the nice thing was that there were a decent number of clouds, so it really wasn't THAT hot (Jacksonville was a billion times hotter)...but still, I wish I had done better on this part, my body just was going into revolt, my socks were sopping wet, and I didn't feel like killing myself to run a bit more... What would you do differently?: train much harder...I am in AWE of you guys who do this frequently, this was tough... Post race
Warm down: Eating potato salad and cookies...getting my bike back to the car with a zillion things in my hands...saying Hi and Bye to my fellow BTers... Sitting on bug-invested picnic tables waiting for Matt (my husband) to get his 5th place coffee mug award:) What limited your ability to perform faster: My fitness, 2.5 months wasn't quite enough training for an Olympic (considering my level of fitness before I started)...I was loving the swim (I coulda gone another mile and been absolutely fine), not a fan of the bike (think I woulda been better if it was completely flat)...and the run just ate me up and spit me out...but, I competed, I didn't sleep in, and I finished!! Event comments: Excellent race, awesome volunteers and I always knew where to go... Wish they would have had some vegetarian food (or fish!!) after the race - potato salad and cookies were probably not the best... Last updated: 2006-07-26 12:00 AM

Get there before the race is starting. We enjoy sleeping so much, its hard - but this was the first race that I got to sleep in my own bed, which was nice...got everything ready the night before, and met up with Q and Terri for an easy ride of the bike course on Saturday...
Ummm, get transition area ready, put on sunscreen
