Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45. Race start @ 7. Had an english muffin with butter and jelly. Had a clif bar on the way washed down with some accelerade. Got my stuff. Set up my transition. Put the bodyglide on. Put the wetsuit on. Said HI to Jen and my Mom and walked on down to the swim start.
Event warmup:

Dunked into the water to get a feel for the wetsuit. Swam 10 yards.
Swim
  • 11m 58s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was worried about my first swim in a wetsuit, especially since it was in a race. The first 200 yards what I was scared about ended up being no big deal at all and that was the suit inhibiting my stroke. What DID scare me during the race is it seemed like I couldn't catch my breath as good in the suit. I was a little freeked out at first, but then got into a good groove. Got kicked in the face by this guy who swam nect to me the whole time. I would swim away, he would swim to me.
What would you do differently?:

NOT GET KICKED IN THE FACE. Also I stopped swimming to soon. I started to wad and the water was just below my chest. BIG MISTAKE
Transition 1
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

First transition getting out of a wetsuit. I handled it pretty good. The transition took forever.
What would you do differently?:

I don't even know where to begin.
Bike
  • 43m 53s
  • 13.35 miles
  • 18.25 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt really good on the bike. It seems like veryone else kills me on hills.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Finished the transition and almost ran out of area with my helmet still on! DOH!
Run
  • 24m 33s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Best run I have had since high school. My knee started giving my problems a mile into the run. I changed my tecnique a little, concentrated on my form, and nothing worse really came of it. No water on the run, didn't have any GUs on the bike, and I had no cramps for the first tim ein a race.
What would you do differently?:

Draft more. I felt a big difference when I drafted right behind people. Whether this is in my head or not is still a good question.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and found Jen and Mom. Chugged 8 oz of Endurox.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transitions

Event comments:

The only thing I didn't like is the run out, the run back, and the bike in, all converge together for a quarter of a mile.
