Swim
Comments: Solid swim for me. Very controlled and likely would have been faster but ran into groups of swimmers 2-3 times and had to navigate around them. Easily worked into a moderate pace then more moderate plus over the last 200 or so. What would you do differently?: Get to start in the "elite" wave so it would be less crowded? Really can't complain. Transition 1
Comments: This was a good transition. Still not putting shoes on the bike as I'm not comfortable with that. What would you do differently?: Had trouble getting left shoe clipped in Bike
Comments: Wanted to push this a bit but not over do it. Legs didn't feel great for the first 3-4 miles but then came around and I was able to maintain solid power. There were a few stretches of road where I just didn't want to go any harder/faster due to the rough pavement. Ended up with power at AP248/NP253. Course is hilly compared to most down here and Garmin showed 650 feet of elevation gain. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I could have pushed harder on the bike.....effort felt hard but not on the edge. Knew it would be hot on the run so didn't want to overcook the bike leg. Transition 2
Comments: This was bad....20-30 seconds slower than most. I ran right past my spot in transition and had trouble finding it.....blah! Otherwise fine. What would you do differently?: Go straight to my spot and exit T2 30 seconds quicker. Run
Comments: I wanted to push this. Splits were 6:33/6:33/6:45 and last .14 at 5:45/mile pace. It hurt the whole way but a good run overall. Maybe be with some cooler weather I can get under 20 someday in a sprint 5K What would you do differently?: This was all I had Post race
Warm down: Sat and tried to cool off. Visited with friends, ate some pizza then cleaned up transition. Waited around for awards then headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing today other than crappy T2. Felt like I raced hard but smart in the heat. Event comments: Fun race. Second year I have done it and they do a nice job. I'm pleased with my race. Great to get first in grandmasters but more excited to get 7th overall. Nice to be able to try and compete with the young guys....those days are likely numbered for this old man. Last updated: 2014-07-11 12:00 AM

The usual. Up early as I wanted to get to transition by 5:15am to get a good spot. Got a good parking place and a good spot in transition.
Ran about a mile, did some stretches and swam about 5-10 min.
