Total Time = 1h 54m 53s
Overall Rank = 95/140
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 7/10
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:45, glucose testing, usual meds, protein oatmeal pancakes for breakfast
Event warmup:

30 minutes walking around, 10 minutes of swim directly before start time.
Swim
  • 17m 5s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a good swim, felt really strong and expected to finish farther up than I did.
What would you do differently?:

I started farther to the right to the mass start so I started near the back and had to push through a large group. I would start out near the front of the pack so I don't have to pass people to catch up.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Socks on crooked, took a little longer to get on, but overall a pretty comfortable T1.
What would you do differently?:

No bike gloves, I ended up shoving them in my pocket because I couldn't get them on my damp hands.
Bike
  • 58m 55s
  • 14 miles
  • 14.26 mile/hr
Comments:

Fueling and drink issues took a toll. Last hill wasn't as bad as I expected, but really slowed me down.
What would you do differently?:

More calorie dense foods... I struggle to eat on the move. Practice fueling during long rides.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 was pretty quick, but I forgot my race belt an didn't drop my fuel packets to lighten pockets.
Run
  • 38m 52s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

The heat and lack of drinks during the bike really took a toll. More walking intervals than normal.
What would you do differently?:

Check the course ahead of time when "trails" are specified. These were dirt/gravel and would have been better with my trail shoes instead of road shoes.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, stretched, more water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, not enough fuel/water (particularly during the ride)

Event comments:

The only negative I had about this race was that there were donuts and chips in the post race food area, nothing else. There were NO healthy options for those of us who can't/don't eat that. I had not brought more food with me, as this is the first race I've done that didn't have at least 1 option I could eat.
