Swim
Comments: No amount of pool swimming can get you ready of an OWS, especially if your sight line is straight ahead. Swam tarzan for first 50 yards so I wouldn't hit the people in front of me. Found my open space and swam. Felt good, smelled fishy, but good. What would you do differently?: Stay to the outside, but start in front. Transition 1
Comments: Was okay, not great, but it can be fixed Sunglasses on and helmut first - couldn't get hemlut to buckle (have to get it checked - brand new helmut) Put on socks, and right shoe, then I had two ankle braces to slip on left foot, then went to leave with bike, bike was caught on rack, got unstuck, THEN I left T1. What would you do differently?: Not have as much stuff, practice more, but since this was my first T1 and I have nothing to compare it to, it was great! Bike
Comments: It did help that I drove the course the night before, just to make sure there weren't any hidden suprises. Before the first mile was over I must have been passed by 40 people - WTH!! Now I know that I am still in biking preschool! But I did pass 4 people over the course of the ride. I felt great during the ride and towards the end I even closed the gap to the pack in front of me...way in front of me. What would you do differently?: Not wear a trisuit. It did not dry and I froze on the bike. The weather was cooler than normal, but I should have put on a t-shirt for the ride. Also, graduate from biking preschool! Transition 2
Comments: Went well, helmut off, hat on, racked bike (mental note: GIVE MOM BACK HER BIKE) Bike had some trouble staying racked, but someone was kind enough to fix that - dropped the kickstand and gave me a 2:00 penalty. Went off for the run all the way at the other end of the transition area. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: PB IN 5K!!!!!! After I saw my time I got mad because I could have broken 30 min. I walked more than I wanted to but that goes back to my hamstring tightening up and my ankle. Stopped half way and took off one ankle brace. Breathing was much better than I anticipated, just need more miles under my belt. What would you do differently?: Not walk as much. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, ate grapes, drank water and found a nice comfortable warm piece of grass and collapsed. Stretched a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Biking strength - but that will come with time and endurance. Wimping out on the run or at least I felt like I did. Event comments: Liked this race and plan on competing next year. The volunteers were great, the fans along the course were great and I didn't feel like an "inferior" person. Stayed with my sister in Fishers so I wouldn't have far to drive. Ate some oatmeal at 5:30 am, 1/2 cup of coffee and a couple peanut butter crackers. Drove to Cicero.
Set up transition area and tried to stay warm. I'm not complaining, but it was chilly. Walked around and looked at bike in/out and run in/out. Did some stretching, but after I was done, I would tighten up again. Was getting worried about my left leg and ankle - would they survive without a good stretching? Waded out in the water up to my knees to check out the bottom of the lake...water was warm.
