Swim
Comments: They had the start order all jacked up with respect to the estimated swim times, so had to pass two people (was lucky it was only two, really). Kept a good pace without overdoing anything - already knew I'd be towards the FOP with this size of race so no need to push it to gain 10 seconds here. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: T1 time included in bike time. Getting the socks and bike shoes on still takes me forever...I probably lose 45-60 seconds here on most competitors. Bike
Comments: 2nd overall female and I kept each other company most of the ride. I was better at shifting than she was, so I was up most of the hills faster. On the flats she was a bit better than I. What would you do differently?: I probably could have pushed it a bit more, but with that huge climb at the end plus the run coming with the same hills I held back a bit. Transition 2
Comments: Time included in run (I think). Had a great T2 though - was in and out very quickly thanks to the new model of Saucony Guides which actually let you use Yankz. Run
Comments: Good enough run...probably should have pushed the flats some more. Hauled it up the final hill as well as I could but my stomach had other ideas about 80% of the way up. Dialed it back and finished the race with a very respectable time. What would you do differently?: Push the flats more instead of the final hill. Post race
Warm down: Mostly walking around and taking in water and granola bars. Chatted with my transition mates a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fitness level could be better, but that comes with time. Event comments: Exactly what you'd expect from a small local sprint. Had to get there early for packet pickup, setup, and get the warmup in before the 6:30 start time. Up at 4:45, PB&J toast and two eggs for breakfast with some water. To the venue by 5:40.
~250 yds in the pool to get the arms loosened up.
