Pre-race routine:

Woke at 4 to go through the usual routine. A few belvita waffers, coffee and headed to the high school for the bus shuttle. I picked this race as my brother and his family live in New Albany and it is always nice to have a home base. The ride to the swim start was only 15 miles, but we took the scenic route in school buses. We made it in plenty of time.
Event warmup:

Set up the bike for this point to poiint race, T1 at the lake, T2 at the New Albany HS. Splashed around a bit before the emptyied the start area and got ready to hit it.
Swim
  • 42m 20s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

Smooth swim, but could use more bouys. return leg was in shallow water
What would you do differently?:

No complaintes, a good time for me
Transition 1
  • 04m 49s
Comments:

Smooth T1. Area was large enough to give us all space to move. The 1/2 had under 300 people so gettign out was not an issue.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 3h 34m 55s
  • 56 miles
  • 15.63 mile/hr
Comments:

I kept it simple on this ride, below all my previous tri's. I got what i deserved time wise. Overall a nice ride that many people were able to really push and put up a great time. Not this guy.
What would you do differently?:

Not come into the race injured and still try to get through it.
Transition 2
  • 04m 5s
Comments:

Due to much construction at the HS we had to walk our bikes several hundred yards to get from dismount to bike racks. I would guess next year would be much smoother.
What would you do differently?:

An issue with point to point rides is the need to bag up all your gear at the end of each leg. After the swim stuffing the wetsuit in to the bag was a pain, after the bike it';s a similar process....
Run
  • 3h 10m 31s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 14m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Wheels fell off after mile 1. I hade no idea a person could actually spend over 3 hours on a 1/2 mary and not go insane. i came very close. Disappointed i did not come to this race at 100%, it deserved better from me. The Challenge Family tri's have a good rep overseas and from what i experienced it is well deserved. I hope to return next year and perform up to normal standards.
What would you do differently?:

Enter a race at above 50% next time. Oh well i still got the t-shirt.
Post race
Warm down:

Family found me and we gathered the gear. A few blockwalk to the HS to get everything

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Illness and injury .. overall this was just a gut check race that was only worthwhile since the family was there.

Event comments:

I was glad to see this one pop onto the calendar, i was sad that i was less than 50% capable... life tends to get in teh way. This race and set up will become a good event for central Ohio, i have done many many tris in my time and this one could become pretty good. I would recommend the event.

Course: Open rural roads. Surface was mostly average, with many sections that were pretty rough. The bad spots were well marked with orange paint, which was a big help. The Pelatonia usues much of this same course which also helped.
