Pre-race routine:

Stuck in traffic forever, get there with about fifteen minutes to spare. Register, change, run to water, realize that everyone has a chip but me, run BACK to water. Oh, and my helmet and gloves were nowhere to be found. I must have driven off at some point with them on the top of the car - doh! Luckily, I have extras, but there is a reason they have become "extra" - the helmet fits weird, and the gloves are too bulky.
Event warmup:

None (see above)
Swim
  • 14m 23s
  • 400 yards
  • 03m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

Cruddy time, but not really a bad swim. I ditched the wetsuit, figuring it woudl be a crime in that lovely warm water. I went right with the gun, freestyled the whole way, and didn't have any panic at all. I was back with the alternastrokers, but whatever. When my body position goes, I am that slow. I took it easy, since, again, harder doesn't mean faster when your legs are at a bad angle. The wetsuit cuts my time way down- I know that. Sighting was awful on the way back, since my goggles were foggy. I ended up hitting the edge of the beach enclosure, sicne I coudl not see the buoy at all.
What would you do differently?:

More TI drills in the pool.

Comments:

Time included in swim.
What would you do differently?:

Well, a woman who came out of the water after me did shoes, socks, and shirt in the same time it took me to do gloves. Obviously, they're slowing me down. But the gory mess my hands were after my bike accident make me very reluctant to skip gloves.

Comments:

No comment, really. The early climb toasted me, to the extent that I couldn't take advantage of the speed that I earned on the downhills - I was spinning air on every downhill; I finally just stopped. Need to get back on hills.

You know what, though? At least I looked good. A handful of people lapped me, one of them was the lead woman. When I passed a volunteer right after that, he said "you're the second woman!" My response: "I'm on my first lap, but maybe next year." Hey, at least I looked fast in my spanking new outfit!
What would you do differently?:

You gotta train hard to race hard - need to get my butt back on hills.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Included in run time - just took off the bike gear and went. My stuff was in the worst possible spot (what you get for coming late).
Run
  • 33m 17s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 10m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

Walked the first hill or two, since I was kinda toasted. Jogged the rest. My shoe strategy (multi-use trainers for the whole deal, no socks) proved to be a disaster - I was chafed really bad, but it was bearable. They added a water stop this year - thanks, guys! Was served by an adorable lil' bit.
What would you do differently?:

Caught Adam!
Post race
Event comments:

Definitely some improvements from last year - more volunteers were mobilized, and it was nice - more manned turns and a water stop. Always a good time for your $15 at Lake T! Was quite disappointed in the bike, but shaved about 10 minutes off last year.
