Total Time = 1h 13m 14s
Overall Rank = 32/307
Age Group = M 50 -54
Age Group Rank = 4/21
Pre-race routine:

2 Eggos and a banana with coffee and water for breakfast. Drove to site, parked and got a decent tran spot. Got my chip and setup tran area. Checked out the entry and exits.
Event warmup:

Checked out the bike, jogged a bit and swim maybe100 yards.
Swim
  • 09m 42s
  • 586 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Did not swim very straight for me for some reason - kept turning right! Had some goggle fogging, so I got a little water in them which helped. Might need new goggles for racing. Water visibility was bad making it hard to find feet for drafting and hard to see other swimmers in front of you to avoid touching toes. Swim was long I am sure as the fastest 100 yard pace was 1:23! Overall and division placing was good though.
What would you do differently?:

Swim straighter! Effort level was there - I know I went hard. Had not been swimming much the last few weeks, so swim specific fitness may have been off a bit.
Transition 1
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Good tran.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 37m 35s
  • 14.45 miles
  • 23.07 mile/hr
Comments:

My Garmin went on the fritz the night before, so I rode naked, which may have impacted my time a little, but I pushed it hard and had my best bike split ever. Only one rider passed me and stayed ahead of me - a 60 year old rider! I passed too many to count as I was in the last swim wave. I played cat and mouse with an 18 year old for much of the race. He ended up being a son of one of the Hed. founders and had the sweetest ride. I eventually left him for good at about mile 10.
What would you do differently?:

Not over-charge my Garmin or whatever I did to make it freak out so I had a bike computer. It worked later in the day when I tried it.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Seemed like a good transition as I ran in hard with my bike and had no real issues, but many others were 20+ seconds faster. Took too long getting shoes on I guess.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 23m 33s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Running hurts.
What would you do differently?:

Do more speed work in prep. Maybe go out a little harder. Run started on grass for the first .1 mile or so and I took it easy and was careful with my footing as I have weak ankles, so first mile was slow at like 7:42. I should have gone harder once I hit the pavement.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank a water. Took shoes off. Got some food which was good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of running speed work. Didn't swim as straight as I could have.

Event comments:

Very well done race on a flat and fast course.
