Swim
Comments: In a wetsuit, I am faster. I came hoping to break 40 minutes. When I got out of the water, I thought it said 39. When I looked again and saw 33, I was shocked. Stumpy Creek, my only previous Olympic swim, was 41:29. 2:03 pace for 1500M is pretty impressive for me. What would you do differently?: It's not complicated. I need to learn how to swim. Transition 1
Comments: Totally forgot how to get the wetsuit off. Stuck on my heels. Forgot to do the zippers. And I was a bit gassed from the fast swim. I can do better. What would you do differently?: Practice, practice, practice. Bike
Comments: The ride felt like to was a constant gradual incline. I know that's not possible, but it was strange. I felt all sorts of new pains, particularly in my upper quads. What would you do differently?: More serious road work. Biking with the boy is activity and accomplishment. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty smooth in transition. No real problems. What would you do differently?: I need to learn how to keep my shoes clipped in. Run
Comments: Splits: 9:42, 8:26, 8:33, 9:54, 9:34, 9:33, 1:57. I kept moving. I was to break an hour. It was either that or the run would break me. My feet were really complaining by the end. Hell, everything was complaining by the end. What would you do differently?: Put in more miles. I need to practice that brick if I am going to do more in the future. A bike-run brick is good, but the consequence of the swim really played today as well. Post race
Warm down: Not much of one. Grabbed and gulped a water and a gatorade. Had a Cliff Bar. Packed up and got on the road. What limited your ability to perform faster: Given that this was my first international, I'll absolutely take this performance. Battling a cold since Thursday slowed me down a bit as did September training. But middle of the pack? Really?!? I'll take it. Event comments: I stepped up to international. I could have done it in '10, but chose not to because I thought I'd just stink. This time I stepped up because I knew I was strong in all three disciplines. Doing all three together is MUCH harder than I expected. But I got it done. Beat all my targets coming in. A wonderful finish to the season. Next up ... racing 50. Last updated: 2014-08-06 12:00 AM

Woke up still battling my cold. Energy drink and a bagel with peanut butter for the road. In the car by 6:15. Listened to 'Happy' as I got closer to get me going.
I just don't get much of a warm up. I calmly get transition set up. I walk around a bit. I hit the bathroom. Nothing unusual.
