Sunny
Total Time = 1h 32m 16s
Overall Rank = 21/51
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 2/6
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30. Left at 5:00. Arrived at the venue at 7:30. Ate a couple breakfast bars at about 6:30. Drove, drove, drove.
Event warmup:

Rick's team swimmer, Richard, tore his ACL last week, so I swam for their team at 8:30. My own heat started at 11:30. I tried to take it a little slow, but it wore me out anyway.
Swim
  • 13m 57s
  • 750 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

My goggles leaked terribly, which made my depth perception terrible. When I flipped, I would miss the wall; I had to revert to open turns about half the time. These are the goggles I've been swimming in regularly. I don't know if it was the change in water temperature, or what made them leak. Also, my arms were tired from the first swim.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out why my goggles leaked. I don't feel bad that I was tired. Rick needed a swimmer. I didn't think it would take much out of me, but I definitely felt the fatigue.
Transition 1
  • 03m
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. I know I should be faster, but I did the best I could. Maybe a tri suit. I don't like running in a wet swim suit.
Bike
  • 38m 22s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 19.39 mile/hr
Comments:

I think I rode really well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I rode hard, and felt great.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Run
  • 35m 27s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

I don't have any run fitness because of my knee. I had planned to run 3, walk 2. Instead I was able to run 2, walk 1. It was much slower for pace than I expected.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I will now attempt to get this knee properly rehabbed so I can run next year.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around and wheezed.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Knee injury. I know it takes longer to rehab at my age, but I'm tired of it. I want to run.

Event comments:

Too bad there was no one to check off riders at the bike turn around. For sure two people I know of didn't follow the correct course and ended up coming back much sooner than expected. They will likely be DQ'd. if there had been enough volunteers, they could have been pointed in the right direction.

The venue should have posted the bike and run courses at the venue., but...sometimes it is impossible to make some people READ!
