Pre-race routine:

Woke up quite late, an hour plus. Hustled out the door, only to have to do a double check on USAT status. Made great time up to the venue. No lights. Walked right up to registration, racked bike and was ready an hour after getting up. Mind you, I had a 40 min. drive to get there.
Event warmup:

tuna on onion bagel and ice coffee
Swim
  • 09m 20s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a weird swim. Sent two people at a time out on the course about 5 seconds apart. Required a run into the water. This sucked due to lots of stones, then muck on the bottom. Then I made a good move out and around slower swimmers. I had self seeded myself to the back, just because. About 1/3 way out, I almost swam into a kayak. The turn buoys were so close together, a lot of people were sighting off the wrong one. I followed like a lemming, and almost went around the wrong buoy. Probably cost me a full minute to make the recovery.
What would you do differently?:

Sight better, this is not like me, but it is ok.
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

coming out of t1, was a packed dirt road. Took it slow to protect the bike, particularly the tires.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, as this was just a tune up/ training race.
Bike
  • 59m 46s
  • 15.6 miles
  • 15.66 mile/hr
Comments:

There was no way I was pushing on the bike. Too little training, but this was a good wake up call for Cranberry. Fortunately, I was given the heads up about a hill at mile 6/7 that SUCKED!!! You know you are out of shape when you need a smaller Granny Gear. I sucked wind on this.
What would you do differently?:

UMMMM Train?
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

This transition sucked too. Had to run up the dirt hill in bike shoes or bare foot to get into T2. I just took my time and made it work. Overall, it was as good as it was going to be.
Run
  • 45m 10s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 14m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

this was not a run, but a power walk. Never a huge fan of hard core trail runs, and I was not about to injure myself with a fall.
What would you do differently?:

not much, just enjoyed the moment.
Post race
Warm down:

hit the water and cooled off

What limited your ability to perform faster:

UMMM train?

Event comments:

Nice, pretty, and fun race. I will try to get back to it again.
