Swim
Comments: No Xanax required, my favorite kind of race. I went slow (reeeeel slow) & stayed to the outside. After looking at the 70.3 Championship splits from Saturday I felt inspired, plus I had my IM70.3 tattoo to ward off the sea monsters. No manatees, bummer. No shoulder pain either. I am hoping I can get through Im swim training w/o rotator cuff surgery. What would you do differently?: go faster. in time, with practice.... Transition 1
Comments: It was a bit of a hike to the transition area, but once I survived the swim I felt like the race would be cake and IT WAS! I was in no hurry & felt like a million bucks although a bit stunned when I saw the actual time. Spilled Hammer Perpetuem everywhere-add a little hot sun & P.U.! What would you do differently?: Make a little more effort to speed it up. Bike
Comments: Talk about racing your plan. I had estimated the 2:48 if I could ride at 20 mph flat. I don't think I could have hit 2:48 on the nose if I was trying to. I kept an eye on my cadence & mostly the scenery. It was flat as could be except a few places felt like a long, low grade incline. Could have been me. Palm tree farms & hibiscus farms - it was crazy cool. A few rough patches of road that made my lower back say "HELL-o" but other than that it was a nice ride. I call it "PUNGO with Palm Trees & no Pirate Wind" What would you do differently?: nada. Oh, I lost the net thing to my aero-bottle. More Perpetuem splashing all over. That stuff is foul. Transition 2
Comments: Sorry, can't get worked up about T-times anymore. I was ready to run through the zoo. Run
Comments: I ran it at what I thought was as fast as my legs could go but with a little in my back pocket for the end but couldn't get my heart rate higher than intensive endurance level. The only way I can describe it is "more ass, less foot"- I think it's just a harder stride that keeps me faster & my heart rate lower-think power running????I saw a lot of corner-cutting. That made me sad. What would you do differently?: Not pour Accelerade over my head. But I think it washed some of the Perpetuem stank off me. I would have pushed it harder. My fastest mile was my last & I think I could have run faster if I wasn't afraid of falling apart at the end. Trust the HRM. Post race
Warm down: Kept moving-found my Naylor's Beach water bottle that I took with me on Lap 1 of the run. I LOVE that thing. Event comments: I think the post-race festivities could have been a little nicer. I might be spoiled by Ft. Story Bowling Alley party fests, but the last thing I wanted post-race was to stand in a long line for cold pizza. Last updated: 2006-07-28 12:00 AM

Up at 4 a.m. like normal-no alarm clock needed. I was ready to go before I went to bed so it was rack & bike on car & we're off. It took us 10 minutes to get to the park which was nice.
I got in the water & kept my head under for as long as possible. Trying to induce a panic attack to get it out of the way, I suppose. It was a perfect morning & I cannot imagine a less intimidating swim scenario.
