Swim
Comments: Ha. So, I get in the water (staying at the back of my pack on purpose.) I'm doing this head up front crawl and then try to put my head in the water and do a proper front crawl. I bring my head up to catch my breath and instead catch a wave and inhale a big gulp of water. I start to breast stroke to catch my breath and the guy on the surf board at the other end of the course books it towards me to make sure I wasn't dying. How tempted I was in that moment to get out. But alas, I was doing this, because if I could finish the swim I could finish this thing. The next 15 minutes are between head up front crawl, and breast stroke and trying to breathe. I was panicking. Then the pack behind us started to catch up (they were lovely - heard things like "keep going", "you're almost there" and "You're doing great".) I finished with the majority of the second pack, and struggled to get my center of gravity as I ran to the bike What would you do differently?: Hmmm...Not think? Start with a different pack? Oh, and definately where a wetsuit Transition 1
Comments: I have nothing to compare this to, but i think this was pretty good. I didn't rush (still trying to recover from the swim) and dried my feet off, threw on my socks and was off. What would you do differently?: I want to get a tri suit. So easy! Oh and my helmet I bought the day before and it was a little tight so maybe getting it fitted before I get on the bike... Bike
Comments: SO. I like the uphills. I kicked butt at the uphills. But then I rode my brakes on the downhills. It was really really scary. I was passing people on uphills they were passing me on downhills. A little strange. What would you do differently?: I see a training opportunity would be to practice going downhills, but yesterday i would not do anything differently Transition 2
Comments: This was fun. I think I did a pretty good job here. Not having clippy pedals really helped. What would you do differently?: Nothing? Run
Comments: I was still coughing from earlier and had an awful side stitch, couldn't breathe. A little disappointed because run is my strongest event. There was no music allowed which was really tough, I kept getting into my head. What would you do differently?: Get more comfortable with pain and push harder because I had a little tiny bit left at the end, and figuring out some sort of mantra, being in the moment, not thinking about things hurting. Also, not almost drowning in the swim might help my breathing. Post race
Warm down: Warm down? How about sit down. Haha I walked to the food tent, grabbed my stuff and went to rack my bike on the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training but not keeping my training log updated - there's no way for me to analyze where I went wrong and what i didn't do. Event comments: Bring on the next race! Last updated: 2014-08-18 12:00 AM

The day started off not so good - I should have known that there was worse stuff to come.
Got there very early - I thought everyone had to check in by 8 am even though the try-a-tri didn't start until 11. Went on a ride to the gas station as everyone i asked didn't have a bike pump, and the nozzle didn't fit, which proceeded to release all the air from my tires. So, my friend went back to get the car, and we found a lovely gentleman with a bike pump who not only let us borrow the bike pump, but pumped up both my tires for me - my hero. We then watched the Sprint finish, tested the water and rode our bikes a little, and set up transition.
Other than our little bike adventure, we got in the water early just to get used to the water.
