Pre-race routine:

Woke up and had a coffee, banana, and granola bar.
Sipped on water.
Event warmup:

Got in the water just long enough to submerge myself. No real warmup at all.
Elite field in this race was impressive! Heather Lendway (2014 USA AG Nathional Olympic Distance Champion) was racing and i saw her on the out and back run about a mile ahead of me.

Comments:

Started with about a 30 yard run through ankle high water then it got deep enough to swim. Found a guy i though looked fast so i tried drafting off of him, turned out it was decently fast but not directional! Ended up zigzagging off course and then i gave up on him and tried to get some time back. Lost some serious time doing that.

Ended up swimming the last half on my own with no drafting.
What would you do differently?:

Try to sight better when drafting and not rely so much on someone else's directional skills!

It was my first swim in a wetsuit too, it went pretty well!
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

Wetsuit came off pretty well, but it was tough getting my shoes on with my hands so cold!
What would you do differently?:

Next season id like to start having my shoes clipped in on my bike, will practice this off season.

Comments:

Felt pretty good on the bike, road on my drops for the majority of it. Mostly flat course with a few hills, nothing major. I wasn't passed on the bike by anyone which is always a god feeling too.

I think the effort i put out on the bike was good, but i always look back and think i could have gone harder.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, cant wait for the off season to start working on this discipline.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

My T2 times are always so much slower than most people. I really need to figure out a way to put my socks and shoes on quicker.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, maybe try running sockless next year?
Run
  • 40m 43s

Comments:

Run felt great even though my toes were a little numb for the first mile or so.
It was an out and back which like a lot as you can see how many are ahead and behind you. I know its not a perfect predictor as people started in different waves, but it gave me a good idea as to wear i stood.

I eased into the run and started to pick up my pace just after mile 2. Once I hit the short course turnaround on my way back i went hard. I was starting to really feel it with about 3/4 of a mile left but i just focused on all the training i have done and how great it will feel when crossing the finish line.

PR'd the 10k. I was hoping for somewhere around 41:45-42:00 minutes and was super stoked when i saw i ran it in under 41.

It was an out and back which like a lot as you can see how many are ahead and behind you.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, went as hard as i could.

Goal for next season is sub-40!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, grabbed some water and found McKenzie.
Stretched out and waited for results/awards.

The female and male elite field in this local race was pretty impressive. Heather Lendway (won Olympic AG National Championship in Milwaukee) was the top female, and there were a few other top local racers who have done well in big races. Four women finished in the top 10! The male elites were impressive too with some finishing on the podiums in big races.

To hear i finished top 10 among this field was awesome!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really.

In my mind this was the perfect end of season race for me as i feel all the training ive done really came together. Its easy to look at the results and nit-pick where i could have shaved off 30 seconds here and there, but overall im extremely happy.

Everything really worked out during this race and i have a great high to ride on into the off season!

Event comments:

Good race, they ran out of water at the finish line, other than that it was great!
