Run
Comments: Had decided that I was going to start off doing a 3/2 run walk because of my cold, but by the time we started I was feeling really good so started off at 4/1. Started slow and held a steady pace, Yanti had her watch set at a 4/1 timing which beeped at each interval which was great (I gotta get me one that does that). As we got further up the hill Yanti shed more clothing and we just kind of trotted along chatting and running. Before we knew it we were at the 4k mark. There were some people that we were playing leap frog with including a fairly big guy who was struggling a bit. It was good to be able to joke with them and encourage them as we went past each time. Said thanks to the volunteers as we went past (this is something that runners don't seem to do anywhere near like triathletes do). Even the hills didn't seem all that difficult and before I knew it we were at the 7k mark and it felt like we had only just started. We hit the 8k mark right around 1:15 a little slower than I had planned and I was still feeling really great so after checking with Yanti that she was ok I left her and headed off at a slightly faster pace. Determined to come in under the 1:50 time I had set for myself but knowing it was going to be tough to do the last 4k in 30 minutes because there are some fairly big hills in that stretch. I kept to my 4/1 plan and just picked up the run pace. Managed to power up the two last hills. Once I could see the ocean I knew I was gonna make the time and I still felt great, not really tired at all. At the 11k mark I decided that I wasn't going to walk again and I was going to run to the end. The finish straight for the 12k runs along side the finish Shute for the HM and Marry so it was nice to be able to watch them finish. I hit the finish line feeling really strong and still surprisingly fresh, my head was a bit hot as usual but felt really good. I stopped my watch at 1:43:18 which smashed my goal time and even beat my super secret if everything goes great but not telling anyone so I don't look foolish goal of 1:45. I am stoked, had a great time with friends and finished in a great time too! What would you do differently?: Nothing really, other than train some more. I think going out that bit slower than I would have if I was by myself was great because it made the race easier and meant that I could finish really strong. Post race
Warm down: Waited at the finish line for Yanti, then wondered down the hill and picked up our medal, some water and an apple. Waited for K and the others to finish so we could go and have pancakes for lunch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Inconsistent training. Event comments: As per normal really well organised, really good public transport to get to and from easily. Great to finish with pancakes for lunch with friends. Last updated: 2014-08-31 12:00 AM

Got up at 6, about 30 minutes earlier than planned because the dogs needed to go out. Hadn't slept all that well thanks to my clogged up head. Was not feeling at all great.
Had a banana waffle, strawberries, honey and yogurt for breakfast with a cup of tea and a couple of pain killers, hoping that they would help my head to stop throbbing.
Cleaned up and waited for Yanti. Thankfully Kingsley had forbidden her to ride to my place as I had visions of her being squished under a truck on the freeway. She arrived smack on time, rugged up like she was ready to run in the Antarctic :) it was a little chilly but not too bad at all. We said bye to Phil who was still in bed and headed off to Ks at 7:30am as planned.
Meet up with K and the 6 others doing the walk at her place they were still eating breakfast. Used the loo and then we walked the 1k to the train station. As usual with big races and events here in Perth free public transport was included in our entry which is great because there is no parking in the city.
Got into the city at about 9am and Yanti and I headed in one direction to our start and the others headed off to catch another train to their start point. After a couple of very helpful volunteers pointed us in the right direction we arrived at our marshal area and waited. It was perfect timing because they were just sending off wave 2 and we were in wave 4.
Yanti shed a layer and we stood around and waited.
None really, a few minor stretches to look the part and that was it.
Thankfully the weather had cleared up because it was really wet and stormy on Friday, but it was overcast but very little chance of rain for us.
