Pre-race routine:

Got up, had breakfast, played with the kids for a bit. Hoped the rain would subside.
Event warmup:

Rode to the race site (about 5km), picked up my chip, did about 300m of easy swimming.
Swim
  • 14m 47s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

Went out easy from the gun; couple of running steps into the water and then a shallow dive before settling in. I was good to the first buoy, feeling pretty strong and comfortable and then the lack of swimming kicked in. I could feel my form fall apart and I was able to hang on to feet for a couple of strokes before falling out of the draft. I just aimed to settle into a nice pace and stay long and strong throughout. After the turn buoy to head back to shore I was taking several waves to the face which was surprising since there was very little chop and it didn't seem to matter which side I was breathing on, I was taking on water. Swim until my hand touched the bottom, stood and jogged up the beach.

Nothing
Bike

Comments:

Not a bad ride but I was more cautious with wet pavement than I have been in the past; took most turns easy and just tried to stay safe for the most part. This is a challenging course with the hills and I just tried to stay comfortable to setup a decent run. Effort seemed a little low in many spots but I just didn't have the extra gear that I wanted. Tried to stay tucked in aero and make the best of it.
What would you do differently?:

More riding.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Solid transition
Run
  • 25m 52s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 10s  min/km
Comments:

Run started okay with out of transition but like the bike, I just had nothing behind this. I cranked up the pace a couple of times but there was no sustaining it so I settled in and did the best I could. Cruised the finish to cap an enjoyable day.
What would you do differently?:

Run more
