Swim

  • 440 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

I couldn't find my breathing rhythm and ended up swallowing water. I swam breaststroke for much more of the race than I intended. I think this was mostly mental and I was a little psyched out.
I was dizzy when I hit the transition area whih really slowed me down.
What would you do differently?:

Relax more.
Transition 1
  • 04m 14s
Comments:

I was quite dizzy so I really slowed down. I actually sat to take off my wetsuit and didn't push it.
What would you do differently?:

Well if I wasn't so dizzy I would have been more quick in the transition.
Bike
  • 29m 3s
  • 6.45 miles
  • 13.32 mile/hr
Comments:

I took it really easy as I started out and then started to push a little. Chain jumped off the outer ring and I was able to get it on without stopping. Nearly pulled my front tire out from under me when my wheel slipped as I was cranking it.
I turned the corner and started heading for a second lap when the 1/2 try was supposed to go straight into the bike in section. I lost about a minute or so with that.
What would you do differently?:

Pay better attention to the finish, not stop as early before the dismount. Push a little harder. I was proud of my ride.
Transition 2
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

I didn't really rush this transition and I headed out the wrong way. Lost time finding the run exit.
What would you do differently?:

Pull my feet from shoes earlier and make sure I knew where the run started!
Run
  • 27m 46s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 33s  min/km
Comments:

Again, I didn't go crazy out of the gate and I just paced myself. Felt pretty good and probably could have gone harder.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push the pace a little more.
Post race
Warm down:

Stand around with huge smile on my face. Fight back tears of joy while hugging my wife and children! First tri ever!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being unfamiliar with triathlons and feeling uneasy in the swim. Mistakes on the bike portion and the transitions.

Event comments:

Never done a tri and I found this event to be organized, fun and well run.
