Swim
Comments: I forgot my goggles in my bag at the hotel!! I asked a few of my teammates to see if they had extras, but mostly everyone was headed to swim start! A random guy overheard me and for my luck he had an extra pair!I It was a random act of kindness, and I will pay it forward! My swim was average and as I expected. I felt good and not tired at all. My breathing was good. On the way back, the sun was on my face every time I turned to look at the buoys. So I was sighting of other triathletes. The last 200 yds I pushed the pace and came out of the water feeling good and confident! I do need to work on swimming straight, I felt at times that I was swimming off course. What would you do differently?: Follow the checklist and double check that I have everything i need, swim straight. Transition 1
Comments: I had some issues getting my wetsuit off. Everything else was as planned. What would you do differently?: work on taking my wetsuit off faster. Bike
Comments: I felt good going into the bike. Because of my foot injury I have spent most of the summer on my bike and I feel as if the bike is my strength now, when it used to be my running! I rode mostly in zone 3 and on most of the climbs on zone 4. I might have pushed harder than I should have, but I was feeling good at this point. My hydration was good, I had 2 bottles with 300 calories in my back bottle holders, water in the cockpit speedfil bottle, gu's and salt tablets in my bento box and also 2 power bars. I refilled the water at all 4 stations. I tried to take around 300 calories per hour. It worked for me! I did not feel like my tank was empty going into the run. What would you do differently?: Bike at a slower pace and save some more for the run. I didn't eat the power bars, I will next time. Transition 2
Comments: Coming into T2 and while dismounting I felt a cramp inside my left leg (hamstring?), so I had to come to a complete stop before dismounting. I then was able to run with the bike into my transition spot. Socks took me a bit longer to put on because they were compression socks. I made the decision to wear my trail shoes, because I felt that they have more support. What would you do differently?: I will spend few more seconds making sure my shoes are tight enough for a hilly course. Run
Comments: My plan coming into the run was to stay in zone 2 and keep a steady pace. I am coming off an injury and did not want to suffer another injury with Arizona being so close. My run was very good, I maintain a steady pace and only walked in a few aid stations. In the last loop I started to feel tired, it was the hottest point of the race and I could not wait to cross the finish line! I made sure to drink water, pour some water over my head and over my arm coolers at every aid station and to drink cola when I felt the need. I took 3 gels, about 35-40 mins apart. I fought some twitching in my quads and calves, but it never really escalated to a full cramp. I lost my salt tablets during the first miles on the run; which if i had taken them, it might have help to stop the twitching. The highlight of the run was seeing so many teammates out there fighting their own battles and just being a team. It helped me to shut the mind and the doubtful voices inside and just concentrated on having fun! What would you do differently?: Not loose salt tablets. Post race
Warm down: No warm down, waited for my brother at the finish line. What limited your ability to perform faster: My swim is always a limiter. I need to work more on the off season. Event comments: The race was well put together, tons of support everywhere. All aid stations were over staff and it had all that I need it. It really made a huge difference on my experience to have so many familiar faces out there. Last updated: 2014-10-10 12:00 AM

Arrived in Henderson on Friday afternoon and headed to the Ironman Village to pick up race packet. We went to the Hotel and rested for the night. Sleep was just OK, I got maybe 6 hours. On Saturday we went to the race expo for the ironkids race. We got to preview the run course on the bike; the course was hilly and weather was warm.. I realized then that it was not going to be an easy run.
I had already preview the bike course except the north shore. It is a hilly course and when I previewed the course it was windy coming out of the park, into town.
My brother and I then headed to the lake to preview the swim. At the athlete's briefing they said the water temperature of that morning was 75 degrees which made it wetsuit legal and it was be the same on race day, Good news!
I tried out my new skinsuit, and it felt good, not the same as a wetsuit, but good enough! At this point I was okay if I had to wear the skinsuit or the wetsuit!
That night I got around 7 hours of sleep, which for me it was good, I was rested!
tried to keep the calms down and also loosen up my arms by waving them around.
