Swim
Comments: Happy with swim. Two loops gives you an idea where you stand during the swim. Water was good. Flat water low chop. Did a bit of drafting the first lap but this did pull me off course alittle. Happy with swim time . What would you do differently?: Overall happy with swim. Need to find a draft early and stick with it. Transition 1
Comments: Good Transition for me. Kept it very simple. Only had to put on socks shoes, helmet, sun glasses. What would you do differently?: None. Some day I need to do a race with now socks. It would save some time. Bike
Comments: After sitting down with the numbers for the race I am happy with the performance. For the first 5 miles or so the body was not happy about all the salt water I drank during the swim. I felt a little off balance.so just tried o get in a grove in the first 10 min. After about 15 min I felt ok so started to push the pace. This is when I stared to get passed by a few guys so I picked up the pace a bit more to try and stay with them. After about the 4th person passed me I was able to say with one guy. For the next 15 miles we just kept going back and forth. This did help me push the pace to stay with him and when he came around me I was able to focus and just keep the pace and not get dropped. At about mile 18 I did get dropped by him. Next time I need t just push the pace and stay with him. PR for the bike. Nutrition: Had one bottle of Gatorade on bike. 2 gels on bike. What would you do differently?: Late in the ride I need to push more. I also need to put some water on my bike to rinse mouth out after swim. Gatorade was not good for the first 5 miles. Transition 2
Comments: Great T2 for me. Under 1 min. happy. What would you do differently?: Need to work on dismount so i can get going quicker. Run
Comments: Looking to run 7:15 per mile. Did not workout this time. Just did not feel i had the leg speed today. I was 1st in Age Group run so happy with that. What would you do differently?: Work on fitness. Need to be able to run a sub 44 min 10k to be in the mix to win age group. Post race
Warm down: Just walked around and talk to a few friends. Unhappy after the race with run but found out later I did finish 3rd in age group. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need more speed work both on the bike and run. Need to do more longer bike TT to improve the ability to push harder during race. Drive to race site. set up Transition about 6:20. Race start 7:40. Took some time to just relax in car after set up. Put on Wetsuit at about 7:05 and headed to beach.
Did a 5 min swim to check the water. Did a few race pace intervals. Took 1 gel 15 min. before start.
