Swim
Comments: This was my first tri and first open water swim. I only breathe on my right side. I positioned myself on the far left of the course hoping to navigate by keeping other swimmers in my vision as I would breathe. I panicked after getting hit in the head several times by flailing arms and to escape I sped up using far to much energy. I then misnavigated and completely crossed the course until I was on the far right side. I burned myself out and lost all ability to concentrate on my form. It was a tough swim. What would you do differently?: For my next tri I will practice and become proficient in ows. Transition 1
Comments: I was far more tired than I should have been after the swim. I don't know exactly how long T1 took because both T1 and T2 are included in the bike split. I guess the transition went pretty well. What would you do differently?: become more proficient at clipping into my bike or practice having the shoes already in pedals Bike
Comments: Course seemed short; maybe .4 miles short. I was really tired from the swim and didn't feel like I had enough to really attack the course. As I was slipping my foot out of my shoe as I neared the dismount line, my pedal flipped over, the shoe was dragged on the pavement and ripped off the pedal. I had to stop, unclip my left foot and run back to get my right shoe. I lost some time and was very embarassed. Oh well. What would you do differently?: 1. keep my feet in my shoes and unclip at the dismount line. 2. train more, build a better base so i have enough energy to attack the course. Transition 2
Comments: I was dead tired, but did fine in the transition. Run
Comments: I had nothing in the tank from the start of the run. I just tried to keep moving forward. I couldn't push the pace. I suspect the course was shorter than 5k b/c I did not feel like I was running 7:20 min/mile. What would you do differently?: I need to build a better base so I can attack the course instead of just survive it. Post race
Warm down: Drinking Jamba Juice..........Deeeeeeeeeelicious What limited your ability to perform faster: My panic reaction (swimming the first 200 yards at a pace I couldn't maintain) in the swim affected the rest of my race. I burned myself out and never fully recovered. Event comments: This was my first triathlon. It seemed to be put together very professionally. It was very well organized. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I will definitely be back next year and hopefully I will improve. Last updated: 2006-08-01 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3am (couldn't sleep--too excited). Ate breakfast, rechecked gear, visualized race.
I acclimated myself to the water temp. Treaded water for about 10 minutes waiting to start.
