Pre-race routine:

Family race. My wife was helping with registration the morning of the race. My middle daughter and her would run/walk the 5K with our puppies. My oldest and I would run the half. Her first and my second.

This race literally comes by my house so it is the neighborhood run. Up early with my daughters, at some breakfast (oatmeal ) and out the door. Had to turn back as my oldest forgot her race bib. Ugh

This race has continued to grow in size each year. The race director is my personal trainer and does a great job with the race.
Event warmup:

Managed to get a good warmup in. Decided to go with a long sleeve shirt under a short with shorts. I had on a wool hat and gloves with shorts. It was cold at the start.

Got a half mile activation run in before the start

Comments:

Went out fast following the 1:50 pace group - first 6 miles was 50:05. But it felt good and my HR was good. I started with gastro issues around mile 5. I needed to use the bathroom, There was one at mile 8 but there was a line - but a very nice couple let me in. Cost me three minutes (see Lap 8_ but after that I ran angry and hard. Very proud of the sub 8 minute mile 13
What would you do differently?:

need to work on what to eat before these long events
Post race
Warm down:

Excited by my time (6:30 mins faster course adjusted from last year). Got some water and met up with my middle daughter and wife. Expected my older daughter to come in about 2:20 - she broke 2 hours in an excellent run.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Well 3 mins to hit the can

Event comments:

Great race - tough hilly course
