It was COLD. This race is along the shore of Lake Michigan so 24 degrees with 25mph sustained winds so single digit wind chills. Just tried to stay warm prior to the start.

Comments:

I started out quick and then settled in for the first mile prior to reaching blockhouse hill. During the climb I just tried to take quick short strides and not let the HR spike too high. Once over the hill I just let the legs loose for the long descent. It opens up to Lake Michigan at the base of the hill and about got knocked over from the wind. We take a left turn and have a nice tailwind on this rolling section and seemed to settle in ok but started to get a little hot with the tailwind.

Mile 4 was with a cross wind and then we make the final turn for the last 1.5 miles straight into the nasty headwind. This was a brutal stretch and just tried to keep the effort high and not worry about pace. Once the race clock came into view I wanted to get under 39 minutes but just missed with my sprint.
What would you do differently?:

I would probably wear some lighter clothing although my face went numb in the last 1.5miles into the headwind.

Event comments:

Always a tough course in tough conditions which is what makes this race unique.
