Swim
Comments: Never really got into a good feel - didn't push too hard in an attempt to pace myself. Jellyfish sucked and really made the swim miserable. Got out to the first buoy well made a good turn then sighting sucked and current began pushing me off course. Pretty tough to stay on track. What would you do differently?: Not fought the current as I was coming into the beach. Get out where the current pushed me, like a few other swimmers and then just run back up the beach. Practice sighting - warm up again. had to wait forever on the beach - they were over 30 mins late starting the swim. didn't take water, just stood around. Transition 1
Comments: Took a while in transition - don't have shoes on bike, so have to put them on and then run / walk like I have a disability over the concrete with my cleats - then try and stop, get on the bike etc.....rookie transition. What would you do differently?: Need to look for shoes that are easier to get on and can already be mounted to my bike. Bike
Comments: Felt good - definitely the longest ride I've raced. Felt good in aero bars, was a pain having keep getting out of them to change gear and brake and corner and then get back down. 2 powerbar gels What would you do differently?: Can definitely see the advatage to having bar end shifters, really for the first time felt like there was a lot of time lost breaking my relatively aero position Transition 2
Comments: No real problems here, other than the ridiculous hobble across concrete in my cycling shoes What would you do differently?: Look for shoes that allow me to ride with my feet on the shoes and then practice Run
Comments: took my fuel belt with me which I was thankful of. I actually felt pretty good coming off the bike and had no leg problems. I think that the combination of the heat, a hard ride and my running level showed. I wasn't dissapointed with the time, but it does suck that after T2 I was ranked 32 overall and then dropped 29 places!! What would you do differently?: Pace myself better on swim and bike. Definitely important heading into diamondman. Nutrition was a couple of powerbar gels - mile 2 and 4 Post race
Warm down: walked for a bit and stretched a little - nowhere near enough, felt sore for a couple of days after What limited your ability to perform faster: heat, body weight Event comments: delay on the swim sucked. went about 45 mins without fluid and 1 hr since swim warmup. Race results took atleast 90 minutes longer than they should have. Overall though it was a good exp for my first oly distance tri - really excited now for diamondman!! A few minutes up and down the boardwalk on the bike prior to heading into transition area. Once all setup, quick swim to get used to the water. Didn't really do much good though, as it was another hr before I would swim!
