    Comments:

Set out at an aggressive but realistic pace, upper limit of my abilities. Felt fresh and excited to race today.
Had to be humble and let myself get passed, some really good fast runners in the field, and I hung with those I could, made a few good moves when I had the chance, but did have to allow to get passed.
Middle miles I was burning pace, and started to have stomach cramps. Felt panic creeping in, HR was rising, but kept my head on straight, kept running fast, but calmed my nerves. Got passed and gapped during this, though. Closed the gap by the end and was in attacking range by the end, I sprinted as hard as I could, but he heard me coming and kicked just a little to hold me off.
    What would you do differently?:

I went hard today. 100% physical and mental effort.
I think the only thing to change was the stomach trouble. Part of that was a week of maldigestion, diarrhea, and a dark spell of bulimic actions and induced vomiting last weekend. Considering the week my gut has had, I am thrilled with what I did today. I think had I not had to slow down those few seconds here and there to quiet my worry and assure myself I was not going to double over, I could have made at least 0:30 if not 1:00 faster time.

    Warm down:

Jogged with a couple of fellow runners and chatted about ironman.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too fruity, sugary breakfast. Oats next time.
Too much liquid, juice, coffee, etc.
    Last week vomiting and diarrhea.

    Event comments:

This is an excellent event. Well attended, nice venue, good staff, fun post-race.
Beautiful scenery. Wine country, vineyards and ranches.

Course: Fairly flat, gentle rollers, a good long slightly downhills stretch in middle miles on Wellsona Road. One hill early descend into creek ravine and climb out, 0.5 mile, 3-7%. Last hill after mile 12 on home stretch, 0.25 mile, 8-12%, hammer up this hill then pour everything in until finish. I know this course very well. Near my office, so the roads I run on at Noon break runs, roads I cycle to and from work.
