What would you do differently?: Spend more time in the pool training. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was in the grass so that meant there was a lot of cut grass all over my feet. It was a long run/jog with the bike just to mount. My time was slower than in the past but each venue is different and I just told myself to "gather up and go." What would you do differently?: Just be faster. Bike
Comments: I always enjoy the bike the most and with this course being as flat as it was it made for an even better ride. Even though we are in the mountains following the river makes for a flat course. What would you do differently?: Just get stronger because there are plenty of guys out there that can whip my tail each and every day. Transition 2
Comments: I decided to slip on a pair of socks since it was going to be a 10k and it reall didn't take that much time to do that. The part I was most disappointed with was my leaving the number belt in the trans area and having to come back and get it. This cost probably 45 seconds on the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing ... except not forget to grab my belt. Run
Comments: I was pleased with the run ... I wanted to break 45 in the run and did so even with the moronic move in T2 What would you do differently?: Run more. Running in Oregon for a week before the race really helped (4100 feet MSL). I am pleased with my foot and that it is still holding up. Post race
Warm down: Stretching What limited your ability to perform faster: My lack of strengh in the swim. Event comments: It was the first time for this race and I am sure there will be more people there next year. Once people here about this venue and compare it to the Bandits Race course the following weekend, you will see more people come to this race. The volunteers were great and as usual set-upinc did a great job in site preparation and the overall running of the race. The mountains were beautiful and the race site was fantastic. I did not sleep worth a crap the night before becuase I was keyed up about this race being my first Olympic distance. I slept about three hours before getting up and driving 2 and half hours to the site (western mountains of NC, west of Asheville).
I arrived in plenty of time, gathered my stuff and waited for the sun to rise. Once it did I jogged and stretched as normal.
