Swim
Comments: A little annoyed about the being told the water temps were completely different the day before. Since this is ocean there is no way that the water warmed that much that quickly. The swells were larger than I had swam in before but I don't swim much open water. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I was happy with my swim Transition 1
Comments: I am still consistently slow in TA What would you do differently?: Got to work on going faster. Maybe running more in TA Bike
Comments: I tried to keep the bike slow as I had not run over 5 miles in training, and wanted to save some for the run. Got passed a lot in the first 1/2 and passed a few in the seconded half What would you do differently?: I think next year if my run volume is better, this course would be a good one to hammer a bit more Transition 2
Comments: The guy going into TA before me racked his bike on my stuff, I waited and moved his bike and racked mine. In the chaos i forgot my bib belt. I realized this about .4 miles. Since the 7 year old who marked me writing was near impossible to read I considered my options and since it was a slim possibilty of a DNF (I knew it was a 2 minute penalty) I decided to turn around. This this put an extra 7.38 into t2 and extra 0.9 on my run. Bike mistake since I was adding nearly an extra mile to mile longest run What would you do differently?: Don't forget my belt, and don't turn around if I do. Run
Comments: Got to the 2 mile point and my neuroma was killing me. Did a run walk from there on out. I had anticipated that this may happen and this is why I hadn't run more than 5 miles in training. What would you do differently?: don't forget my bib. I took a 8:30 mile and exchanged it for a 12 minute mile. Post race
Warm down: Drank water, and then went into the water for a little cool down What limited your ability to perform faster: Forgetting my bid was a huge problem. Additionally I didn't train enough for the 10K run. Event comments: I am very likely to do this race again. I did not like the race check in process as it was completely different than any of the races I have done. I also thought that there were very few volunteers for the swim compared to other local races. Was a little be annoyed but the lack of information leading up to the race and being misinformed about water temps the evening before. Shirts were nice, and there is a finishers metal that was also nice. Last updated: 2015-01-23 12:00 AM

For the two weeks heading into the race I missed a couple runs, swims, and didn't get a single bike in.
The morning before I went over my bike, cleaned and oiled the chain. We arrived to the OBX the night before and I went to the prerace meeting. They reported water temps well within wetsuit range (I think they said 73 or 74). We stayed about a 30 minute drive from the race and that morning I got up early, had half a blueberry muffin and coffee while setting up TA. The forecast was for thunderstorms but the sky was clear. The water was choppy. TA closed more than an hour before my race and this made things a little bit of a pain (oly and 1/2 iron in same TA.
They announced in TA that water temps were 81 and so no wetsuit.
Short jog and a little swimming
