![]() Run
Comments: This was a last minute thing, not planned. I didn't use a HR monitor or anything else. Just wanted to run and see how hard I could go. If I blew up it would have been ok. I did go out a bit too hard. Didn't expect the uphill near the beginning. Got passed in the 1st mile by 3 young women, then by one guy about half way and one guy in my AG in the last mile. If I had held back a bit towards the beginning I think I could have pushed a lot harder at the end. I wasn't quite at the point of losing my will to live at the end, but it was still a hard effort. Still, it was a PR and I crushed my 5k goal for the year of 20:30, so I'm happy. What would you do differently?: Not eat doughnuts and brownies the day and night before. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Sat in the shade for a few minutes, drank water. Then I went out on the course to maybe find Dudley who was volunteering and to run Yvonne in to the end. She rocked the last quarter mile *hard*. Got my 3rd in AG and a water bottle to commemorate it! They gave me the one marked for the 3rd in AG Female. Must of confused me with Max. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor nutrition the previous few days. Mental inability to push through to the next level of pain. Underdeveloped internal sense of pace/effort. Tactical inexperience with this distance. Genetics. Event comments: Fundraiser for a good cause and organization. Nice people, nice course. I hope they make it an annual event. Woke up kind of late, ate a plum and booked out the door. Got there half an hour before race time. Saw Dudley. Registered, had a cup of coffee (key).
10 minutes of jogging with a few 15-20 second pickups.
