Comments: Started out great. Was planning on starting somewhere between 7-8 min/mi and then settling into 8/mi for miles 2-5. Was doing about 7:30/mi after the first and felt fine and heart rate was lower than I was expecting, so I kept at 7:30 for the next mile. This continued until the start of mile 5. Only thing that didn't feel great was my shins the first couple of miles, but that went away and everything was clicking. At mile 5 I still felt great and hr was still around 80% so I decided to pick it up to 7/mi. This felt great until I got to mile 6 and started to have trouble. Managed to keep it around 7:30/mi until the last .2 then just gave it all I had until the end. What would you do differently?: Not sure I'd do anything differently. Maybe I could have had a touch faster pace through the majority of the race, but I was already running much faster than I had planned on. I probably should have waited until mile 6 to pick up the pace dramatically, but hey you have to push yourself a little too much to really learn your boundaries, right? ![]() Post race
Warm down: There was lots of free food and drinks! I chowed down! What limited your ability to perform faster: Just my overall fitness level. I just need to continue to train and get better. Event comments: Lots of support and lots of food! Last updated: 2015-02-10 12:00 AM

Had my regular banana/PB/honey and big glass of water and some coffee for breakfast. Headed out a couple of hours early as this is a big event and traffic/parking will be an issue.
Ended up being a cool-up. Found parking pretty easily, but there was a huge line to pay where you had to stand out in the cold. Then the standing around waiting for the race to start. No bag drop so you had to wear your race gear. This wasn't some people's first rodeo and they were wearing trash bags for warmth that they could then just trash prior to the start. Noted.
