Total Time = 5h 39m 53s
Overall Rank = 972/2335
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 127/275
Pre-race routine:

My wave start was at 7h20 - got up at 5h after a 4.5 hour nap/sleep. Breakfasted on two bottles of Boost extra calories - perfect breakfast. Transition zone and body marking from 6h to 6h30, back at the hotel room by 6h45
Event warmup:

15 min warm up jog;
10 minute swim warm up in the lake
Swim
  • 38m 58s
  • 1930 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

Perfect conditions for the swim. A little sun, mainly overcast. Small wave of under 100 men. Everything went according to plans. Used the wet-suit strippers on exit - good choice!
What would you do differently?:

Could have pushed a bit more to cut 2 or 3 minutes, but very satisfied overall
Transition 1
  • 04m 38s
Comments:

Long run from water exit to transition zone: 750 meters. Expected to make transition under 5 min, so right on target.
What would you do differently?:

Be careful when getting on the bike - hit an orange cone and almost face planted!
Bike
  • 2h 54m 34s
  • 90 kms
  • 30.93 km/hr
Comments:

Just a little rain half way through - excellent compared to the 30mm they were announcing on the Wednesday prior to the race. Nutrition was on target - getting gels at 30 min intervals with water and constantly sipping on 3 bottles of Gatorade via hydration system
What would you do differently?:

I would push a little more on the flat section - could have cut down 4 to 6 minutes
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Very quick and perfect transition
What would you do differently?:

Not worrying that it was too fast and thinking "what am I forgetting" :-)
Run
  • 1h 59m 58s
  • 21.1 kms
  • 05m 41s  min/km
Comments:

Excellent run - started with a bit of pain behind thigh on the first hill, slowed down, but everything went away when I passed in front of my support crew.
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit more on the flat section, but otherwise everything went according to plan
Post race
Warm down:

None!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing - my A goal was to finish under 6h. I was not sure I could do it, but beating the 6h mark by 21 minutes was overwhelming!!! My best (I had written impossible on my plan) evaluation was 5h45.

Event comments:

Excellent race - lake water is clean and clear, bike course is wonderful and very smooth, run course is very nice, tons ans tons of volunteers and the finish setup is extremely nice!
I feared injury on the run so I refrained from pushing harder, but beating my A goal by 21 minutes - I don't care :-)
