Run
Comments: Stopped and walked at every water stop (8 of them) and drank a gaterade and a water at each one. Was still dehydrated and fuzzy at the end. Just not used to the heat after training in the cold. Never really pushed it, basically tried to stay relaxed until the bridge, then deal with the bridge, and then find a pace that I could keep through the end. Hips were pretty sore for the last few miles. Feet and ankles were okay. What would you do differently?: Not much. Wanted to experiment with the run / walk approach and once I saw the forecast, that was a good call period to make sure I hydrated as much as possible. Now, just hoping my legs aren't shot for the 10 miler. This was a B or C race given my training, but it's a fund raiser for the Cancer Center where my Dad spent quite a bit of time, so I try to time my visits down here to coincide with it. 2nd slowest half ever, but maybe I have to start getting used to that :-)) Post race
Warm down: Drink, stretch, drink, stretch, eat fruit, drink... repeat. Was buzzy for a good 20 minutes. I can't believe how much I drank and it was all used. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat/humidity and training. Event comments: Good race as always. My 3rd one. One of these days, I hope to get "nice" weather! Woke up too early at 4am... puttered around and drank lots of water / G2. Race start was forecast to be 70 degrees and 100% humidity. At least no expected thunderstorm like last time. Forecast was right. Pretty toasty... and once the sun came up, even more fun. Left the house at 6:20. Probably should make it 6:10 or 6:15 next time, but it was fine.
Just did some stretching and warm-ups. Usual pre-race routine. Just drank more water than usual.
