Pre-race routine:

Woke up at Mom and Dad's house and drank a cup of coffee with Dad. He went with me while Mom, Karen, and Izzy slept in until race time.
Event warmup:

rode my bike for about 5 minutes to make sure the gears were functioning properly. I did about a 5 minute run and then started the walk down to the lake for the start.
Swim

Comments:

I had a good swim today, actually swam a few seconds faster than last year. It seems that my swim speed is staying about the same despite training far less for the swim in recent years; that's reassuring.

Not a good day on the bike today. I just didn't have legs for the bike or the run.

Comments:

I had a horribl, horrible day running. This run is split in two parts (1.5 miles before the bike / 1.5 miles after the bike). I could tell during the first run that I didn't have it. My legs were heavy and I actually considered DNFing when I got to my bike. I ran the first run a full minute slower than last year. The second run was even worse. I felt ok for .5 mile. After the first aid station I stopped and threw up on the side of the road...walked a few feet....and threw up a couple more times. That was pretty much it as I just had to survive the rest of the run by running about 8:00 miles. Horrible. My second run was 2 minutes slower than last years! Pathetic. I've learned my lesson...it'll never happen again. Next year I get back to dominating people on the run.

Event comments:

Well, this concludes my 2006 race season. It wasn't great by any means. I lost 1st place in my age group today by 5 seconds...I guess that minute and half in someones front yard throwing up hurt after all. Looking back I realized that my diet the day before the race was this: Sausage McMuffin for breakfast, pizza and hot wings for lunch, a meatball sub for dinner, and no breakfast on race day. That was smart.

I raced 6 times this year and placed in my age group only twice. That's not what I'm used to. Next year I recommit myself mind and body to racing. I hate losing. I hate it; I'm better than this.
