Run
Comments: The course is mostly an out and back although the route back doesn't quite follow the original course. Miles 1-9 are relatively flat with some minor rolls and also not very many turns. We ran mostly with a headwind for the first half, but it wasn't too heavy. This being Kansas, I think we got lucky there. After the turn, you run right back along the same course until ~ the 8.5 mile mark. Then you get to a nice downhill until just after the 9 mile marker. Of course, that leads to a monster uphill that is approx. .65 of a mile climb. This was a heck of a hill and I saw many folk that I had been pacing with begin to drop back. After that, there are a few more good hills until you hit mile 11. I would also say that the day was very humid despite the mild temps and I think that started to get to quite a few people. What would you do differently?: This was supposed to be a training run, but I didn't do a good job of holding back to a training pace. I was feeling pretty good and decided to push the pace slightly just because it has been awhile since I've done that. Looking back, I really should have held back more and stuck to my plan. Post race
Warm down: Post race stretching and also hit the massage tent to have them work on my hamstrings which were kind of tight. What limited your ability to perform faster: I haven't been training to push a faster pace and this was simply supposed to be a training run. Event comments: Despite the silly nature of a cow themed race, these people really treat you right at the finish line with what was quite possibly the biggest post race spread I've ever seen! Simply based on that, I would definitely do this race again! Last updated: 2015-03-11 12:00 AM

So I don't have a very rigid pre-race routine, but I will provide a general idea of what this race entails.
Because this race is truly out in the country, we had to park on a gravel road a couple miles from the race start. The nice thing is that they had a very efficient shuttle bus system so we only had to wait about 10 minutes to hop a bus and get to the start. Once there, I was pleased with a large number of porta-potties (the main pre-race requirement).
I just did some light stretching in the corral prior to starting the race.
