Pre-race routine:

Drove over to the event on the morning, usually stay at friends nearby but as it wasn't starting too early preferred to stay at home.
Event warmup:

After racking my bike and organising transition went for a very brief run before a 10 minute warm-up in the Sea. Although it's the 6th sea swim of the season it still felt very cold jumping in the water.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 500 meters
  • / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Might start a little nearer the front as I got caught behind a couple of swimmers slowing down near the first buoys.
Transition 1
  • 00m 60s
Comments:

Awesome transition, had the wetsuit half-off before exiting the water, quickly removed the suit, put on cycle shoes, helmet and was gone in under 60 seconds. The trick with putting baby oil on the outside legs of the suit really works as it didn't get stuck at all on my heels.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing this time around.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 20 kms
  • 0.00 km/hr
What would you do differently?:

I didn't managed to get into a bunch to draft very much on the race (which is good training for Tauranga) but not good for the first main race of the season, so probably needed to get some more bike training in.
Transition 2
  • 00m 60s
Comments:

For some reason they directed onto the grass at the bike in and could ride into transition rather than finish on the run and run which meant a shorter run off the bike. Quick transition to switch shoes, remove helmet and grab cap.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing this time around.
Run
  • 30m
  • 5 kms
  • 06m  min/km
Comments:

didn't get my legs into rythm until the drink station and turn-around point at the top of the first hill.
What would you do differently?:

Take it a bit easier on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

A few stretches, a coffee and danish ;-)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Had a great race, taking 10minutes off my time the last time I raced this course so felt pretty good. Need more time on the bike to get the average speed up.

Event comments:

a great race, a number of the Tri squad were racing so had some familar faces around.
