Pre-race routine:

the could use more rack space...some people were laying bikes on the ground

Had a blueberry bagel with cream cheese and a banana with a small glass of oj and a coke for breakfast...continued to sip on water
Event warmup:

nothing...had a vanilla bean gu...put on wetsuit...restroomed again and got in water

*times are all estimated except for the bike split...t1 was included in the swim and t2 in the run
Swim
  • 17m 30s
  • 600 meters
  • 02m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

I need better swim endurance or need to relax more...keep composed..I could have front crawled that distance
What would you do differently?:

be in better shape...not hold back in the beginning..not be afraid of making contact
Transition 1
  • 05m
Comments:

Stopped to use the restroom again...couldn't believe that I was ahead of Dan out of the water...saw Pamela in crowd...put on shoes and ran up to bike..fought with wetsuit a bit...got on bike and TOOK OFF...forgot gel
What would you do differently?:

turns out not much..felt good
Bike
  • 53m 16s
  • 17.6 miles
  • 19.82 mile/hr
Comments:

felt great...passed a ton of people...started making me wonder if I was going to fade or be alright in the run
What would you do differently?:

not much...had a blast
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

stopped to take in another vanilla bean gu...talked to Pamela and Mark Kimball...still couldn't believe I was ahead of Dan out of the water
What would you do differently?:

Push through...get out of there..but I was having fun
Run
  • 40m 50s
  • 4 miles
  • 10m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Struggled mentally in first mile...got composed and ran with a couple teenagers until the turn. Walked through aid stations..jogged the rest of the way...big smile everytime I saw Dan behind me...was trying not to gloat too much...I was still worried that he might catch me somehow. I like being able to see the others on the course
What would you do differently?:

Push, Push, Push...have to get used to running distance feeling awful
Post race
Warm down:

walked it off..oranges and banana, gatorade and water...hungout until awards

What limited your ability to perform faster:

run muscle endurance and speed work, swim endurance, bike muscle endurance...lactate threshold

Event comments:

Absolutely beautiful bike leg
