Pre-race routine:

We stayed overnight at the local Motel 8, which was nice. Nothing special... just show up and set up.
Swim
  • 43m 1s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

I'm a slow swimmer. It's something I'd like to work on over the off season.

I had trouble with my swim cap again. It never came off completely, but it was threatening to, and I stopped a couple of times to adjust it.

Also, for at least the first 10 minutes, I was HATING it, and was telling myself that this would be my last race for a while. I really had a bad attitude.
What would you do differently?:

Cut my hair a bit shorter so it fits better.
Transition 1
  • 05m 41s
Comments:

Eh... had trouble getting my socks and shoes on. But mostly I just took my time.
What would you do differently?:

Whatever. I'm not worried about my T1 time. It's not "real" until I get real pedals, etc.
Bike
  • 1h 51m 15s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 13.40 mile/hr
Comments:

After my flat, I just lost it. I already had a bad attitude in the swim. The flat just made me mad. I didn't consider turning back. But I stopped "racing". Well, until the turn around, that is. I rode the way out at a decent pace, but I wasn't really pushing. Just riding.

But as I approached the turn-around, I started seeing the women who had passed me while I was changing my tire. And they were close. And they were on mountain bikes, too. So I started thinking like a racer again. "I can catch her. And her!"

So I pushed on the way back. And I caught three of them.
What would you do differently?:

Not get a flat? Seriously. I could have been faster if I had pushed on the way out.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

Actually, it was probably faster since I always have trouble hitting the lap button on my watch at this point. Maybe it has something to do with running, etc.
What would you do differently?:

I should have grabbed a gel.
Run
  • 1h 24m 48s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 13m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt good. I had to rein myself in a bit and not red-line the whole way. I probably could have run a bit faster.

I didn't eat anything on the bike, and by mile 1 on the run I was actually HUNGRY. But all they had at the first aid station was mocha gels. I skipped it and had some water and Cytomax. At the second station, I had a razzberry gel and more water and that helped me get through the rest of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Run a bit faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Just pack up my stuff and go.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, mental attitude, equipment.

Event comments:

I think by now everyone knows how much I love these guys. Going back in three weeks to do the Luna Bar Sprint.
