Pre-race routine:

We were very early (I thought it was very far away) so we had a relaxed time. But I was looking forward to meating some of my runners world forum buddies. We were supposed to meet before the race, but due to a lack of organization it did not happen.
Event warmup:

Ran around for 2 minutes (I know it is not enough) Then walked to the start (10 minutes). Started slowish.

Comments:

The run was fine. The first kilo I was on 5:46 and that was amazing. I never go that fast!! So that was a great feeling.

But it was tuff. The time and the kilometers flew by and I chatted with some people around me. Was amazing to be able to keep going. But there was this one couple where I kept passing them and had no steam left to stay in there front. This happend in the last 5km.

I broke the race up into a 10 mile (16km) and a 5km. It helped to keep the focus like that.

I only felt a wanna-be cramped on 18km and knew I could finish it. That was also when I ran with some one and they started to complain about the heat. I did not even notice it before then.

I had a Energy Gu after 1:20. So I believed tat helped.

What would you do differently?:

Start slower (?) maybe I should rather warm up better before the time. Then I can start at 5:45 and keep at it for longer.

Wear better socks. I had some blisters on my toe and that was not very nice.

Post race
Warm down:

What I should have done that?!?!?

After I got y medal and grabbed on to my Berties arms we walked up the stairs and I sat down. BIG mistake. Only realized after wards that I had to keep walking. I kept walking for 2 minutes untill my heart settled down. But my lungs only relaxed after a warm bath.

I did take a cold bath first and that helped with the legs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My own speed and fitness.

Event comments:

Apart from not getting a goody bag and being one of the last finishers, the race was very well organized. The niggles with the entrance was also not very nice. but since I pre entered, I had no problem there.
