Swim
Comments: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/789083495/1 What would you do differently?: Swam faster than the Riverwinds tri that I did in the swimming pool (200m)! I guess wetsuits and salt water really do help! Transition 1
Comments: I didn't study this transition. I should have gone through this one in my mind because I came up to my bike from an unexpected direction. You can see I did a zig zag right at the bike rack trying to decide which side my stuff was on! According to my Garmin trace I was stationary for about 1 minute. What would you do differently?: According to my Garmin trace I was stationary for about 1 minute. I was 6/17 in T2 in my age group with the top 2 being around 1 minute. 1.) run faster from water to mat 2.) starting unzipping closer to bike 3.) try no socks? Bike
Comments: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/789083495/3 What would you do differently?: Perhaps I could have gone faster on the bike. The wind was 8mph from the south, but didn't seem to make a difference. My heart rate dropped between miles 6 - 9 and again at mile 11-12. I should have kept up a higher rate during these intervals. The speed seem to stay at the same pace of close to 22 mph for each 5 mile split (21.8, 22, 21.6 mph) I did this race thinking of it as a sprint, but at 1.5 hours total time I think that I should have had an energy drink on the bicycle. Transition 2
Comments: This went reasonably fast. The change only requires taking off helmet (using the start from the top and go down and then down to up), then shoes and then putting on running shoes and race number. I was 6th out of 17 in my age group for this transition. The top people were between 43 and 49 seconds. What would you do differently?: I was a little confused on coming to the rack. Based on the garmin trace I spent from 20s to 52s stationary at the bike. So this means it took me 32 seconds to take off my helmet and cycle shoes and then put on running shoes. So how do I get 15s faster? run faster with bike and off bike? Run
Comments: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/789083495/5 Could have pushed harder in the last half of the race: 7:16, 7:02, 6:54, 6:52 and perhaps took it a little too slow in the first mile? Average heart rate stayed below 170, so I know I could have pushed to get the heart rate closer to the upper 170's at least in the last mile. What would you do differently?: I was looking for at least gatorade on the course - but only water. I had made the mistake of not having any energy drink or gel (for me I use medjool dates) on the bike. Post race
Warm down: walking Event comments: This was a great race. It was well organized and the food at the end was excellent with fresh cooked waffles & fruit, home cooked granola bars, apples, bananas, water ice, and much more! The water was clean and nice to swim in. The bicycle course only had two 4 way crossings near the Garden State Parkway (which you went under). The other crossings were very minor. The road almost seemed to be closed to traffic. Run course was a loop around the lake on roads. Had shade from trees for much of the course. Last updated: 2015-06-01 12:00 AM
