Total Time = 2h 27m 46s
Overall Rank = 15/136
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/21
Event warmup:

Run loop around the WWc. Bike around the WWC. Approx 200 yd swim warmup.
Swim
  • 20m 31s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 03s / 100 meters
Comments:

Other than being 3rd in my AG, I did not feel like this was a good swim. Pretty packed, did not get a good line, and had difficulty breathing and getting draft.
What would you do differently?:

Try to shave 3 mins off this time
Transition 1
  • 00m 36s
Comments:

T1 was fine - I think I could have been a little faster with a better spot in T1.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 33s
  • 22 kms
  • 16.80 km/hr
Comments:

Crashed on the bike just as the course hit the trails. Dealt with bloody knees the rest of the race - fortunately, no damage to the bike. Was able to pass the riders that passed me while I was sprawled out on the trail.
What would you do differently?:

Shave 8 mins off this time. May think about using small chainring more - especially on some of the steeper hills
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

Trail run shoes - decided last minute to add socks.
What would you do differently?:

I could shave at least 15 seconds off with less hesitation and going sockless.
Run
  • 47m 21s
  • 8 kms
  • 05m 55s  min/km
Comments:

Felt awful getting off the bike. Face planted on one of the first hills. Had to walk on one of the uphills around Mile 3. Paced behind another AGerto bring my HR down from 175+. This was 5 minutes slower than last year and I should be in better shape! :(
What would you do differently?:

Should easily be able to shave 8 mins off this time.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch and nearly pass out. Sucked down 2 bottles of Gatorade and lots of water. Watermelon and a breakfast burrito (sweet potato and quinoa).

Event comments:

Was one of the first there in the morning (6am), but packet pickup did not officially open until closer to 630am. By then, there were more people and advantage went to those who picked up packet the day before and got the primo T1 spots.

If I am able to realistically shave off the total time - I think a PR for this race would be just under a 2:10:00. Based on this year's results, it would put me in Top 4.
