Swim
Comments: The swim went ok except my cap started sliding off my head. I wasted a few seconds adjusting it just past the turn around buoy...that alone probably cost me 1 spot in the placing. What would you do differently?: Not much. I haven't swam much since Chattanooga due to a variety of circumstances. I probably would have felt better in the Roka Sim shorts and saved a bit of time in T1. Transition 1
Comments: A little bit of an issue getting the wetsuit over the heels...probably cost me an extra 10-15 seconds. Bike
Comments: I tried to ride fairly hard since I new this race attracted some good athletes in my age group. I knew there was a tough, hilly run at the end so I didn't want to redline the bike so I tried to leave a little gas in the tank. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 2
Comments: 2nd in my AG What would you do differently?: I do fairly well on T2...need to work on T1. Run
Comments: This is where I really lost my shot at 3rd or 4th place. I felt decent coming out of T2 and felt ok till I hit the first hill. The hills are 25 to 55 foot gains and one right after the other. I remember getting to the 1 mile mark and thinking...oh no! I've got another 3 to go! I took a total of 4 1 minute walk breaks to get my heart rate down. I guess the combination of taking some time off after Chattanooga, over biking, the heat, the hills and poor pacing just did me in. What would you do differently?: Be more patient/conservative on the run. 3rd place was 2:30 in front of me and 4th place was 30 secs in front of me. I lost a possible podium spot by going out too fast and blowing up. Post race
Warm down: Water! They were handing out wet rags at the finish and they felt wonderful! After I cooled down a bit I found a bunch of my friends and shared stories, drank some beverages and ate the nice post race food. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm not the best at running so I need to focus on that a bit more. Event comments: Like I said earlier, it's a well run local race that attracts a decent number of good athletes from the surrounding areas ( a good number out of the Nashville area). Post race food and beverages are very nice. Last updated: 2015-06-08 12:00 AM

2 hour drive to the race so I woke up at 3:30, ate a Cliff Bar, and hit the road.
This is a cool low key event. Biking racking is first come first serve so I parked my Felt fairly close to the bike in/out and prepared my area. The swim was ruled wetsuit legal but I was considering just using my Roka Sim shorts since the water was 76 F and the air temperature was definitely heating up. I opted for the wetsuit but I'm not sure that was the right call. I swam must of the way out to the first buoy to shake the cobwebs out.
