Swim
Comments: A little puzzling here. My first time swimming freestyle for the entire event (yes that's right!!) and finishing worse than I did last year! My sighting was very poor into the sun. I ended up about 20 yds off the 2nd buoy and didn't see it until I passed it. Ended up having to wade for a moment to pick up the next two. I also may be sightning more than I need, which may be effecting my pace. Overall felt very good and relaxed the entire swim. Got bunched up about half way through when getting passed by the fastest woman and passing some slow younger age groupers. What would you do differently?: Work on sighting less. Get better tinted goggles (or get my good tinted goggles fixed.) Transition 1
Comments: Pretty good T1. A little slow getting the suit off my heels. Got to the mount area quickly, but took a couple more swipes at getting my feet into the shoes than I would've liked. What would you do differently?: Work on the bike mount. Bike
Comments: A good bike ride. If not a PR, then very close! I kept the cadence around 90-92, which felt smooth the entire way. The last 10 miles were kind of lonely, so it was tough to find extra motivation when all I was seeing was duathletes! What would you do differently?: Not much for now. Had a gear slipping on the top chain ring (between 3rd and 4th or 4th and 5th) which I need to get resolved. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition. Went very fast considering that included getting socks on. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I was really happy with the run. I was shooting for a lower time, but the heat really made me rethink my strategy. Good push on the HR, and the last 1.2 miles were at a 6:20 pace! Kept very steady at 7 min/mile pace up through mile 5. Definitely a maximum effort the last half mile or so. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Plenty of walking and water/electrolyte drinks. Then some stretching and a dip in the lake. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim technique and bike. Event comments: Always a great way to start the season. Under new management and they still had it go off very smoothly. Last updated: 2015-06-08 12:00 AM

Got to the race plenty early. No rushing for check in, transition prep, or warm up. Had breakfast about 2 hours before start, and a banana and half a powerbar about an hour before.
A few sets of high knees and butt kicks before getting into the wetsuit, and then a warm up swim of about 200 meters. Then a little stretching on the beach before go time.
