Swim
Comments: this was a joke, but being my first tri and knowing that i'm SOOPER AFRAID of open water, it was a perfect first tri for me. started off dolphin diving, stroking a bit, standing up waiting for people to move, repeat. it was pretty slow moving the first half. after we rounded the last buoy, it was more swimming, although i was headed toward detroit, instead of staying in canada. but i managed to swim most of the second half, which is much easier to do with no one around. within the last 200 meters i had an asthma attack from all the sooper deep breathing and the nervousness at the start. this totally sucked but i dealt with it and tried to run to transtion to inhale my crap. no problems whatsoever after that. funny part 1- there were a few times when i was swimming and G8R was walking/agua jogging- THE SAME SPEED! funny part 2- Grillmaster was on the back of the course when we were going out and he spotted me, stood up and yelled "GO TRIXIE!" so i stood up and did the same for him! how often does THAT happen! What would you do differently?: if it was a real tri with deep water i would have needed to warm up, after a few minutes of dolphin dives i felt pretty comfortable with the swimming and breathing thing. i probably should have tried to 'really' swim the whole thing but people were aqua jogging past me, so i tried to finish the fastest way possible. Transition 1
Comments: T1 and T2 times were included in the bike, so i have no clue what they were other than way longer than they'll be in the future. What would you do differently?: remember where i put my bike, i didn't realize it was the second to last rack. oops. and i had a bit of trouble getting on the bike, why? i don't know. Bike
Comments: toward the end of the race the road was not marked and there was no one ahead of me to follow and i saw a policeman directing traffic, i screamed at him, thinking he had to stop it for me as i crossed through the intersection. he didn't hear me so i had to lay on the brakes and come to a complete stop before a woman popped out of the corner and said "RIGHT TURN", i wish she'd been there a little quicker, like before i stopped?! What would you do differently?: not much, went pretty freaking good. Transition 2
Comments: i nearly feel over dismounting, the legs were not happy with standing. then i reached my area remembering that i forgot my usual race shoes with the yanks in them, so i use some shoes without them. not a big deal except that when i was walking around before the race i had them untied and flopping around sooper loose. this is not how you want them in transition. i tried to quickly tighten them up and in doing so i UNLACE ONE! so i had to sit down and RELACE MY FREAKING SHOE! oh, well. live and learn. What would you do differently?: use the right racing shoes?! Run
Comments: went way better than i thought it did. i thought i average mid nines, that's what it felt like. i did have to stop and tie my shoes:( i also did the usual stop and drink at the aid stations. What would you do differently?: yanks?! Post race
Warm down: the put on a HUGE feast, it was AWESOME!! discovered i had placed in my AG then sat around for EVER waiting for my plaque. What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of swimming endurance (and confidence), Yanks, and the 5 mile race through hell i did the day before. Event comments: nice race, nice venue, and canadians are pretty cool, expecially the rennicks. thanks to them and to G8R for helping me pop my tri cherry. big ups to BDK for taking the pics. MY FIRST TRIATHLON!!
woke up- laughed at G8R, tripped over Rick, chatted with Grill, listen to C1 and C2 play with the rhino, ate part of a crack cookie and very little of a roll. morning nutrition is not what it usually is cause i was nervous about the swim, which is kinda funny, read on and you'll find out why.
got my stuff in transition ready, but not ready enough...
