Swim
Comments: I was a bit anxious prior to the race, and felt my heartrate spike early in the swim. I didn't feel like I got in a decent groove until the swim was coming to an end. I had a plan to stay to the left of the pack but I think I was way too far left. I felt like I did the turns better than in some races and I thought my sighting was better too. I was one minute slower than my swim at the same race last year which was a little bit of a disappointment. The swim course was a bit different than last year in that it started with us wading in the water rather than with a run from the beach. Also, after looking at the other swim times for this year, they seemed slower across the entire age group than last year making me think the course was probably longer than advertised. I have been swimming with a Masters swim team for a month or so and have been working on developing a more efficient stroke. I wasn't expecting to see an improvement in my swim yet, but it was tough realizing I was slower than last year. What would you do differently?: Do a swimming warm-up. Figure out how to swim faster. Transition 1
Comments: I had the first rack once you got into transition so I was right there but had the greatest distance to the mount line. Mount was ok, not great. I lost a lens on my sunglasses somewhere in the transition zone which impacted my vision on the bike. What would you do differently?: Just keep working on getting faster in the T zone. Bike
Comments: I didn't remember the bike course too much from last year but thought I remembered it being a fairly easy course. I felt a bit fatigued on the bike and while I had some great sections on the bike, I definitely performed poorly on the uphills. I was also having double vision the entire bike because of the lost lens in my sunglasses. I'm sure my race photos are going to be funny with only one lens in my glasses. What would you do differently?: Workout more on the bike and do more hill repeats. I missed a scheduled bike workout at mid-week and I think it would have been a benefit to do it because I hadn't done any riding since the 50-miler last weekend. Transition 2
Comments: I finally had a transition under a minute! I am actually surprised because when I tried to rack my bike, the rack started to collapse. I had to hold the rack up so it wouldn't fall completely. What would you do differently?: Work on trying to get my feet out of my bike shoes before dismounting from bike. Run
Comments: I wanted to really try and get some speed on the run but felt a bit held back by some cramping. I'm not sure what the cause of the cramps were but they lasted the entire run. I got to the finish and thought, even with those cramps I should have run faster. What would you do differently?: Start running more and add some speedwork and get back to 7 minute miles I used to run! Post race
Warm down: Walked through the finish area. Grabbed some water, received race shirt and turned in chip. Played with the girls and walked through the finishing area while waiting for the Get Fit women to finish and awards to be announced. Got a rub-down on my legs from Brian. What limited your ability to perform faster: I beat my time from last year by 12 minutes! I am pleased with that but I know I can still do better. My bike average wasn't as high as I wanted it. My run pace was also slower than I had wanted. I didn't have too many expectations on the swim but realizing it was 2 minutes slower than last year is a bit of a drag. I am going to stay positive about the entire race by remembering I was 12 minutes faster than last year! Get more/better sleep the night before the race. Do not schedule two job interviews in the days before the race. Event comments: I think GA Multisports does a great job with this race. It started a little late this year but that didn't bother me at all. I think it's great that there is a women's only event in Georgia and based on the fact that it sold out, it seems a lot of women like the event. Last updated: 2006-08-13 12:00 AM

Let's start off by saying the week prior to the race was stressful. I had job interviews on Thursday and Friday that had my stress level very high. This race was the only repeat race I did from last year so I was also pretty nervous about beating my previous time. I slept horribly the night before the race and when the alarm went off I was seriously considering just rolling over and staying asleep. I dragged butt out of bed, got dressed and got my gear (packed the night before) in the car. I helped get the girls dressed and in the car. We drove the 30 minutes to Acworth and get a great parking spot. I unloaded gear and made way to transition. I got a bit high-strung and panicky when I got to my rack and couldn't find any room to get my bike racked. I probably sounded like a whiny baby to the others in the area. I was able to find some room and racked bike. I ate a Cliff Bar while standing in the potty line.
Missed out on this. I had wanted to get in the water and swim to warm up but by the time I got to the water, they were calling for everyone to get out. I think a pre-swim swim is important for me because I'm not a great swimmer and need to get my heartrate up a bit to ensure it doesn't spike too high once the race starts. I was in the third wave of swimmers which started 9 minutes after the first wave so I'm not sure if a warm-up would really help though.
