Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:45 and had a MET-Rx bar and some water. Pack up the bikes and left the house at 5:15. Got to the park and got body marked, set up transtion and took the pre-race bathroom stop.
Event warmup:

Took a 5 minute jog and stretched a little. Spotted some in my age group, we will call him green hat guy from here on out. Never saw the other 2 in my age group.

Started out really good. I was glad I took the time to warm up. Started running with my friend, be he slowly dropped back. Was watching green hat guy and thought, crap he can run. When i first saw him, didn't think he would be hard to beat.

Nothing. Thought I had a good pace.

Past green hat guy right out of transtition and never thought I would see him again. Was feeling strong first 6 miles, then the wind picked up. About mile 7.5, green hat guy past me looking like he was on a Sunday ride. I thought oh shit. Kept pushing to keep him in my sights. Second half had wind in my face.

Got out of transtition and saw green hat guy, new if i could keep up with him, i'd pass him at the finish. At about 1/2 mile, he cracked and i only saw him during the turn around. :)

Nothing, maybe a couple more bricks.

This was a great race. Very well organized with a great post race/evening awards cemeromy. I WON a trip to the BAHAMAS. Can you believe that. There next race in the series is in Grand Bahama and I won the free cruise out there. Just have to get a hotel and pay the entry fee.
