Swim
Comments: Time wise this swim was pretty typical for me. And it is better than the time I posted on this same course last year. But my navigation was terrible. I was zig zagging all over particularly on the first half. So I lost a lot of time this way and even more because I had to sight more often than typical. I tend to pull right on my swim. What would you do differently?: I need to navigate better. I am swimming extra distance and using extra effort that isn't needed. Transition 1
Comments: I do my best to have a quick transition, but I don't do things like leaving the shoes clipped into the pedals. The seconds I can save in those spots isn't significant to me yet, but it wouldn't be bad to learn some of these things. Overall, though, I am happy enough with this transition. I was 17/29 in my age group on this transition time. I passed 4 people in TRN1 and was passed by 4 people. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I was hoping to hit a 20 MPH average on this bike, but it wasn't in the cards. There was a light headwind on the out portion of the course (which is the harder portion) that held my speed down a bit. This wasn't a bad bike, but I had hoped to be at least 19 MPH plus. I knew 20 MPH would be a long shot. What would you do differently?: I would be a little more aggressive on the turns in town. Transition 2
Comments: Nothing special here. I ranked 16 out of 29 in the age group and 80 out of 187 overall on this transition. I'd like to be under a minute if possible. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: This race starts at 9 AM. The run is on black top and is in full sun exposure. So it gets hot! My pace was actually pretty decent, but I had to walk from time to time as my heart rate was pretty high. It wasn't a great run. What would you do differently?: I don't have much run fitness right now. So clearly I would train more on this leg of the race. This is where my biggest opportunity lies at this time. Post race
Warm down: Drank some water and cheered for my friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight and training. Event comments: This is a fun race. It is very laid back and casual. The location is beautiful and lends itself well to a triathlon. Last updated: 2015-07-27 12:00 AM

This race is held on Leach Lake which is a very large lake in Northern Minnesota. My friend who hosts me for this event lives on the lake so we actually get to throw our bikes onto his boat and then boat 6 or 7 miles to the bay which the race is held in. We get some strange looks from fisherman on the lake, but this is the best way to arrive to a race in style.
Set up transition. I walked through the transition area to familiarize myself with the swim in, bike out/bike in, and run out location. I have messed this up in the past so this is a very important part of my pre-race routine. Finally I did a little bit of swimming about 15 mins prior to the start of the race.
