Sunny
Total Time = 1h 12m 26s
Overall Rank = 18/379
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 2/23
Pre-race routine:

Stayed at the LQ, so no driving up to Waco the day of, so not bad, could have eatten something before hand, but oh well
Event warmup:

Stretching and staying hydrated
Swim
  • 10m 43s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not bad considering this was the second time swimming this year. If I want to race more, will need a little more pool time!
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

Ran well with bike, had small issues with socks but overall will take it. 5th in AG and 34th overall. Only 4 seconds slower than last year
Bike
  • 31m 52s
  • 12 miles
  • 22.59 mile/hr
Comments:

I pushed fairly hard, but didn't gas myself for the run, so felt good enough, caught a bunch of folks on the bike. Like they say, "Out bike the fish, out run the bikers"! 2:54 faster than last year (different course and distance)
What would you do differently?:

Get race wheels
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Not bad, felt good to get running again, and grabbed my stuff and went! 3rd in AG and 41st overall, 5 secslower than last year, so about on point
Run
  • 26m 16s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 07m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

At least they are now advertising that it IS in fact a 3.5 mile run, I felt good, ran with a small water bottle to squirt on my head to keep cool and it worked. Felt fast and picked off a bunch of faster bikers and ran my way on to the podium! All this despite being 14 seconds slower than last year, so go figure! And out kicked a guy at the line (he was in the 20-24 AG)
Post race
Warm down:

Dumped a bottle of water on my head, and drank 4 chocolate milks and ate part of two bananas

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'll go with my swim for $500, Alex! I am sure that I could have kept it closer to last years 8:38, instead of 10:43, I would have taken first in my AG, but I guess I'll find that balance someday

Event comments:

I still love this race! It is close to me, well managed, and get fun! If I can swing it next year with my retirement, I'll be back next year, if not, I'll sorely miss this race!
