Swim
Comments: Very spread-out field; no one to draft off of after 200m without going out of my way! What would you do differently?: Not sure; got a bit separated from the pack rounding the last buoy and heading home, but I was sighting a straight line to the finish arch, and my Garmin map looks like I followed the tangent, so I'm not sure if the pack was sighting off one of the sprint tri buoys and followed a different line?!? But my time beat my goal of 32 minutes, so it's hard to imagine I took too long of a route! Transition 1
Comments: Everything went smoothly; I finished the swim feeling great, so really sprinted through the transition area. Forgot to strip suit down to knees before grabbing my helmet, but it didn't take much time to pull it off my feet. What would you do differently?: Remember to pull wetsuit down before grabbing helmet. Bike
Comments: ALMOST met my goal of 17.5 mph average, Wind on the way back slowed me down a bit, but is probably also responsible for my strong first half! What would you do differently?: Got really sore in the aero position, thought I stayed aero for the vast majority of ride. Need to build some strength in my back and think about a new saddle for the numbness and bruising I'm feeling afterwards! Transition 2
Comments: Nothing special about this transition, except the velcro on my Fuel Belt didn't get stuck together right, so it popped off when I started my run. What would you do differently?: Stick that velcro together tight! Run
Comments: Started WAYYY to fast (8:29 for first mile; goal was 9-9:15!) and knew I would pay for it, but couldn't figure out how to slow down! Splits got slower and slower until I was through mile 5, then managed to pick it up again with the help of another runner. Felt exhausted/sick after sprint to finish, though! What would you do differently?: Must figure out how to slow down at beginning so I'm not so exhausted in latter half of race, even if it means taking a walk break early on. Post race
Warm down: Tried not to faint while walking around slowly. What limited your ability to perform faster: Saddle soreness distracted me and made it hard to maintain an even pace during last 3rd of bike leg. Starting way too fast in run may not have hurt my time, but it hurt my body and mind! Event comments: Very friendly and supportive volunteers. Loved the cheers along the course! Bike course had nice scenery...I saw osprey out over the river, and nesting on shore. Wish there had been a few more participants, because it was a little lonely out there! Bagel and almond butter + half a cup of coffee at 5:30 a.m.
Jogged for 5-6 minutes around 7:30 a.m., then changed into wetsuit and headed down to water. Swam a few minutes before the sprint waves started, got stung by a wasp while standing on the beach (OUCH!!!), then swam a little bit more before my wave start at 8:34.
